Backup My PC - Restore Files - Access Denied Error

jaydub

Question

I am using Backup My PC version 5. I have backed up files from my C:\ hard disk drive to my F:\hard disk drive. When trying to restore files from my F:\drive to my C:\drive I get a C:\ access denied error. I am using Win2000. Can anyone please help me with this ? Thank you for your help.

Under the restore more options, check the advanced tab, what is checked? Restore NTFS permissions? Restore hardware settings? Might have to try different combinations on those.

Hi Marlin,

I went to the advanced tab and tried every possible combination (4 combinations) and neither worked. Still get the same access denied message.

I just had the same problem...using BackupMyPC version 6...restoring files from my XP desktop to my new XP laptop..into the MY DOCUMENTS directory...ended up with ACCESS DENIED errors...did a Google search and found this thread and also this link...http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-8914-Guide-Bypass-ACCESS-DENIED-error-when-accessing-data-from-different-XP2000-install.html

It talks about changing the security settings on the folder through taking OWNERSHIP...

I had to make the change noted about the Advanced functions...Simple something or another (see I am a slowlearner)...but then right mouse clicked on the My Documents folder and followed the instructions to give me back ownership. It seems to have worked.

Good luck.

What bothers me is that it is probably Windows which is giving you this message, or possibly security software you have. Have you tried turning off thing like security software? Just temporary to see if it will restore then.

Sorry I can not answer your questions with other than maybes, as I have not run into this before.

Make sure you are signed on as administrator. Also you may have to check restore to a alternate location if all of the directory structure is not there.

Hi Marlin,

Thanks for the reply. I am logged on as administrator, and the original file location permissions are read & write enabled. Yet I still get the "access denied" error and won't restore.

My directory structure is there.

Any other suggestions?
