Backup MY PC Never Ends

yk2100

Question

Whenever I run a back up it takes forever, The backup creates files 00001.qic, then waits for input from the user, then next file 00002.qic,,,,,,,,, and so on.

When I bought the program I thought it was easy to use and completely automatic.

I have a Sony Vaio desk top running Windows XP. Hard drive is partitioned into C: and D:

Can somebody help? (before I dump the software).

Thanks.

What are you backing up to? D: drive? How is it formatted, FAT32 or NTFS? If you are backing up to the D: drive, I suggest you get an external to back up to. Otherwise if you lose you C: drive, you also lose your backups on the D: drive. If you are backing up to an external drive, make sure it is formatted in NTFS, otherwise it will create 4GB qic files, the max size file that can exist on a FAT32 drive.

If you set it up that way, once you start the backup, it will continue until finished. It will overwrite the file each time, unless you tell it to use a different name.

Edit - Just thought of something. If you are backing up the C & D drive to one of those drives, it will never end until your drives are full. After a while you will be backing up your backup. It has to go to another drive.
