Again with the activation

kevbentz

Question

I installed EMC9 and did some video editing with it.... fine, it works.

I went to make a DVD and got the MPEG-2 activation problem. Mine says "Invalid Product Key".

I tried the manual activation - no go.

I tried a clean install - no go.

I tried a repair - no go.

I registered with Roxio and lo and behold.... they changed my product serial number.... (they have a different one than the one I installed the software with, which was given to me when I downloaded it).

Okay, fine... let's try that serial number..... uninstall, delete, edit registray, blah blah....

Install with "new" serial number (yes, it did work).... attempt to activate MPEG-2 - "Invalid Product Key".

Try manual activation - hey, isn't that the same 25-digit number they gave me when I tried to activate before? Didn't work.

So what kind of crap is this? :angry2:

Hey Everyone, I Hated this problem with the Activation of MPEG2 codec! It has been a nightmare, but I think I have finally got it. I hope this works for everyone. Basically I did everything the very helpful forums have said, but I still had the activation problem, either it was the "Invalid Product Key" problem or the "ERR_ACTIVATION_INVALID_PK" error. Well I tried the clean uninstall and manual activation fixes, but they did not work. I also tried to do phone activation, but got caught in the last 5 numbers being invalid loop, aarrgh!! So here's the steps I went through to finally activate the MPEG2 codec.

1. You must absolutely do the clean uninstall, follow instructions carefully. http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR With Vista, RUN is under Accessories folder. Now, to do the regedit thing I used tweaknow regcleaner, but I guess you can use any regeditor or cleaner. Then, use Vista's Search function to search for "Roxio" and "Sonic". Use Advanced Search, Search Location = Everywhere, and Check Off Include - Non-indexed, Hidden and System Files. Erase the folders and Run a Regeditor/Cleaner Program again, just in case.

2. Then I turned on the Startup programs again but disabled my Antivirus. I started to install but got the invalid CD Key problem. I downloaded the patch and was able to get that working. (http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000116CR) I only installed the Roxio program and NOT the Content. I downloaded mine so there were 2 files.

3. If your installation was successful, you should be prompted to Restart. I did that also and double clicked the Roxio Icon. I chose to Capture Video Function because that was the problem program for me. Then I activated and was SUCCESSFUL, I nearly peed my pants b/c I was so happy, Just Kidding! Then i installed content. So far No problems except with Videowave! But hopefully I will find a solution here for that!

I really hope this works for everyone because I was so frustrated with it also. I didn't want to lose the $70 I paid for the program, I hope it was worth the hassles! Happy Burning Everyone!

For other users. If activation continues to fail, please contact us at support directly instead of posting on the forums. There is little we can offer as a work-around via the forums but if we talk in person, we should be able to help out.

*Edit* I should specifiy that contacting us directly does not include sending me a message via the forums. It means the normal support channels and phone is preferred for activation issues.

Can you direct me to . . . or give me . . . the phone number so I can talk to someone in Tech Support.

To check your key, go here (and enter your login e-mail and password) and it will show the keys for all Roxio products you have registered.

Make sure you haven't entered an 'l' for a '1' or a 'O' for a '0'

http://www.roxio.com/REGISTRATION/login.as...%2fDefault.aspx

I have no issue INSTALLING the software. It accepts the serial number that I received when I purchased the software AND it accepts the serial number it has listed in my registration information on the Roxio website (curiously enough, they're DIFFERENT from each other).

My original serial number only has one "0" (zero) in it and no "1"'s (ones) so I'm sure I got that correct. It's only when I try to activate MPEG-2 that I get the "Invalid Product Key".

I have the exact same problem with the Serial numbers not matching between what Roxio has recorded in my account and the serial number they emailed me when I purchased an electronic download of Creator 9.

Someone please help, I am sick of uninstalling and installing to troubleshoot this problem.

I am experiencing the same issues and have taken the same steps to fix them - all of them. I don't know how many more times I should uninstall and install. Plus, why does Roxio take over my computer? Suddenly all my .jpgs were Roxio Photo Suite images... and images I edited within VideoWave were deleted when I uninstalled the program, so they show up as missing files. I am just about ready to cry uncle. Maybe Adobe? I use their other programs.

NEWS FLASH! Instead of trying to open C9 MyDVD to work on a project or to burn a disc (which resulted in the seemingly unfixable Activation Error), I decided to try MyDVD Express. Again, the Activation Error showed up. This time, however, the automatic activation worked (no offline activation required... which didn't work anyway). I was not only able to burn a disk; MORE IMPORTANTLY, I can now open MyDVD. I'm not questioning how or why this worked, but it did. Like many of you, I have spent way too many hours trying to make a pretty simple-to-use software program pop out a production. I'm not a tech-wizard (and didn't think this was a program that would require me to be one), but I do have people around me who are...and they have been amazed at the avalanche of problems that have surfaced.

Now that's very strange but if it works, that's a good thing.
