Further research would indicate an installation of EMC 9 is somehow affecting directshow. The specific error code in Windows Media Player after EMC 9 install is "&H8004020F Cannot change allocated memory while the filter is active." If I restore to pre-installation the error goes away. Checked registry for clid entry for directshow and it does exist. Unfortunately there is no restore utility for directx10 / WMP11 to fix the registry tweaks resulting from the EMC 9 install. Just for giggles I did a partial install, only audio components no video. The problem still presented itself. Even though I did not select any video components the blue-ray component installed. it was the only video component that did install. Rolled back through system restore and the WMP11 worked again. I have a ticket with MS on the issue.
More: Following the uninstall directions on this group will also enable the wmp 11 to play MPg's again.
