Mydvd Shuts Down When I Go To Internal Drive For Video

curlybones

Question

When I open MyDVD and then open Media Selector and then go to an internal drive to select an AVI file, MyDVD disappears from the screen. When I try to reopen MyDVD, I get a message that MyDVD is already running. When I open Windows Task Manager it indicates that the following Roxio processes are running: 1) RoxWatchTray.exe, 2) RoxMediaDB.exe, 3) VideoWave8.exe, 4) RoxWatch.exe, and Roxio_Central.exe. The only visible process on my desktop is the "Roxio Creator 8 Suite Home." Can anyone tell me what is going on? It took me several uninstalls and reinstalls to get to this point with this software. I purchased and downloaded the software from Element 5, as opposed to Roxio, 2 or 3 months ago. Would that be a problem? I am using version 8.05. This is becoming very, very frustrating! I previously used EMC 6, 7 and 7.5 with absolutely no problem. EMC 7.5 is still on my machine. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I am using a Dell 8250, 1.5GB RAM, 3 internal drives totalling 800GB, 3+GHz, many external drives and other attached hardware and many, many applications on the c:\ drive. I am using Windows XP Home with SP2 and 2006 versions of Norton Internet Security, Anitvirus and AntiSpam. The Windows XP firewall & antivirus is turned off in favor of Norton.

Do what Grandpabruce suggests.

If that doesn't work

Do you have a router?? That can cause problems. Disable the firewall if you do

I am posting this response separately to both grandpabruce and jeff:

I disabled the Norton firewall and the Norton Anti-Virus (while disconnected from the web) and was rewarded with the same reaction by EMC8. But, this time I got a message that told me that Videowave 8 had encountered a problem and had to close (I even got an apology, but no details on the problem)! However, it does seem that the problem lies with the drive I am accessing. The file that I have been trying to get is on a third internal drive in my machine. Since I had no connection left for it on the motherboard, I installed an ATA controller and this may be causing the problem since I tried going to each of six separate external drives and importing an avi file from each and I had no problem at all. It is only with my drive g:\ and it seems that the problem must have something to do with the ATA controller. Incidentally, I have accessed and imported the referenced (and other) files from the g:\ drive with no problem using EMC7.5. Have either of you seen anything like this before?

I surely do appreciate all the time and help that you have given me. It is a blessing that there are people like you two around to deal with us slow learners! Thanks much.

Shut down your Norton and try it.

Francis, the main hard drive that I use for video storage is connected to my Promise Ultra 133 Tx2 Ide Controller card. I have not experienced any problems with it.

I have never had an external drive so don't have a clue if there is the possibility of yours causing a problem. You could try disconnecting it, then try to get that file from your 3rd hard drive.

Did you try disabling roxio watch??

Jeff:

Thanks for the response. I did as you suggested, disabled Roxio Watch, but I still have the problem. As soon as I highlight an AVI file on my G:\ drive, BAM, the progam is gone without so much as a by-your-leave. But, at least this eliminates one item as a possible cause. Any more thoughts? Thanks again.
