Copied DVD will not play

Katie2005

Question

I used Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 (Build 7.1.1.189 ENU) Disc Copier to copy a DVD+RW video disk to a DVD+R. It is locally produced and not copywrited. The source DVD+RW disc will play in my PC using Roxio's Player (it won't play using AVS or Windows Media Player apparently due to not having the correct plug-ins). It will also play in my Sony DVP-NS400D DVD Player.

The destination DVD seemed to record normally showing 100% completion on the bar graph. Roxio's Player will not play it and the Sony DVD player says "the disk is dirty;" which of course it isn't but I cleaned it anyway with no success.

I have only one DVD drive which is a TDK 1280B with firmware version T7S1. I haven't used the drive much except to copy CD's (with no problems). I do have a high speed CD drive.

I SURE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP ANYONE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GIVE!

The information reported by Windows Explorer on the source and copied disc's are Sonota_Volume DVD with folders Video_RM and Video_TS.

On both disc's the Video_RM folders have the following files: Sonata.info, Sonata_debug.ifo, Video_RM.bup, Video_RM.dat and Video_rm.ifo.

On both disc's the Video_TS folders have the following files: Video_ts.bup, Video_ts.ifo, Video_ts.vob, Vts_01_0.bup,Vts-01_0.ifo, Vts_01_1.vob, Vts_01_2.vob, Vts_01_3.vob, Vts_01_4.vob, Vts_01_5.vob, Vts_02_0.bup, Vts_02_0.ifo, Vts_02_1.vob, Vts_02_2.vob, Vts_02_3.vob, Vts_02_4.vob, Vts_02_5.vob.

ALL FILE SIZES ON THE SOURCE AND COPIED DISC ARE REPORTED AS BEING THE SAME SIZE.

I'm really at a loss and would appreciate any help I can get.

All i know is some disc i make dont play either.

I have a KLH dvd player hooked to my tv.

Most the time it wont play dvds i burn from

roxio video wave or dvd builder.

BUT my G.E. dvd player will.

My brothers apex plays them.

BUT a friends JVC has trouble

sometimes it does.

Maybe it depends on the dvd player

or the type of blankdvd media.

DVD R-

from Sony or magnavox

not something cheap maybe?

I dont know much about the difference between

DVDR- and R+ but i use - all the time.

Basically it's all down to trial and error in the end - finding out what will and what won't play in a particular set-top player

Fuinnily enough - the cheap ones made by A. Non of Taiwan seem to be happy with anything you feed them - it's the expensive, top-end models that get indigestion

I can understand that the Sony DVD Player might have a problem with disc's created on another device even though it is rated to play all the + and - formats. However, when I can't even play the DVD on the TDK drive that created it it makes me suspect htat there is a problem elsewhere. Any ideas where????

How do I capture what I need from the original DVD to my HD and then create a DVD from that???

Thanks in advance.

First, examine the surface of that DVD and see if you've actually 'burned' something on the DVD.

Second, visit the website of your computer/DVD drive manufacturer and see if there are any updates or firmware for the drive. It's possible that the company has issued updates that make writing to DVDs more reliable.

While you're there, see if they have a list of recommended 'brands' of DVDs that they recommend you use in the drive.
