Accessing previous sessions on multisession DVD?

rmhartman

Question

I have a multisession data DVD in which the last session was accidentally burned as empty. This has the effect of hiding all of the stuff that is actually on the DVD.

In a previous version (Adaptec v5, I think) I could access previous session on CDs. I do not seem to see an equivilant function for this on Roxio v7, at least for DVDs.

Any ideas?

I don't know how you burn an empty session, but put the disc into your drive, fire up Creator Classic, and it should see it just fine. If not, you may not be able to burn another session.

If you can't see the files in My Computer, by right clicking on the burner with the DVD in it, and selecting Explore, then you might be done.

You burn an empty session by importing the previous sessions then clearing all the files in the Project Pane.

Of course most people do not go to that much effort to lose all of their data…

Only recourse would be a 3rd party recovery program like CD Roller or ISO Buster.

The Session Selector was eliminated in V6 and this is the first I have ever heard of anyone doing this in the 4 years since it was changed.

Nero used to have a session selector similar to Roxio's. It might be worth getting hold of a copy of that if you can, and see if it will help.

Session selector would display the sessions on a disc, and let you pick which one you want to access.

Actually, when you "import" the previous session, you are bringing forward the TOC [Table of Contents] that enables the computer to FIND the files. It doesn't re-copy the files the way Microsoft Office does.

So, if you've wiped out the pointers to the files, it's time to use a recovery program like the two mentioned by James Hardin, unless you can find a tool to mount the individual sessions, as sugested by Brendon.
