MyDVD 9 - Menu Title Order

Mike_mn

Question

In MyDVD 9, if I reposition the menu titles keeping them in the order they were loaded, they selected out-of-order by the arrow buttons on the remote (in preview, or on my DVD player remote control).

Anyone know of a fix or solution?

Menu style is a custom style originally from one of the text menus (Can't remember the exact one).

Example, I add titles in the following order: title1, title2, title3..., then reposition them such as follows...

+--------------------------------+

| My Stuff

|

| title1 title2

| title3 title4

| title5 title6

|

+--------------------------------+

Title1 if the default button.

Pressing DOWN on the remote results in Title4 being hilighted.

Pressing DOWN on the remote results in Title5 being hilighted.

Pressing RIGHT results in Title6 being hilighted.

Pressing UP results in Title3 being hilighted.

Pressing UP results in Title2 being hilighted.

I've verified this on three text menu styles.

I've also re-arranged the titles three different ways. The order tends to follow the same pattern, not titles.

Single column (of cource) orders fine.

Make sure the titles that you rearrange are far enough apart. The "select zone" is larger than you see.

Is the default menu that you are using have three across?

1-2-3

4-5-6

If there are no more options up or down, when you select up or down, you are actually getting next and previous. This would give you the pattern you are seeing.

So that's probably the cause, I'm not sure what the solution is. :(

Mostly likely the menu is working AS DESIGNED.

1) Which menu style did you choose to 'customize'? HOW where the buttons organized originally?

2) Just because you rearranged the buttons, doesn't change the order the buttons are selected.

Example: if you chose a menu style and the ORIGINAL buttons were vertical and you decide to move them horizontal, LEFT AND RIGHT will not work as anticipated because the ORIGINAL design was UP/DOWN. How the navigation works is predetermined by the original menu design. Make sure you select one to customize that has teh buttons arrnaged the way you like first.

If you need absolute control over buttons and navigation, you would need an app like Sonic's DVDit Pro.

Yes, I've read about the menus being pre-determined and figured they are working as designed.

I took the menu text menu style 'Stripe' and customized it, replacing the background with a black panel I extracted from Videowave. Played with the 'Button Layout Rectangle' settings until I got all 7 titles to present nicely in one column on the left. Played with the buttons, and got a decent looking basic menu. I don't ask for much! I'm surprised that Roxio didn't provide a basic black menu.

After I got this setup and saved, I started playing around with it to manually position the text titles in two columns. This is were the selection arrows did not follow the columns up and down, and side to side. I was repositioning the titles to see if there was a pattern. No luck. but that's okay, I'll use the other menus.

DVDIt is to expensive just for designing DVD menus. I've read mentioned that another application (PhotoSuite?) can be used to design DVD Menu Styles. Anyone know if this is true?

If you can live with the button layout, you can design your own custom menu in MyDVD. Look at the Tips and Tricks forum in V9 and there are instructions and a video.

If you chose a menu style with vertical orientation, the UP/DOWN should still work fine. Just that the on screen display would jump left/right top to bottom depending on how you arranged the buttons. If you are trying to use the right/left buttons, the order would seem random.
