Separating Audio From Video

davidjmair

Question

Maybe I just haven't looked in the right place, but how do you separate the audio part of a video clip from the video? If you start with a video clip with it's audio running along with it, and then you wanted to edit in, and remove a piece of the origianl video and replace it with a new piece of video without bringing that new piece of video's audio along with it, how is that done using the VideoWave 7 Professional? That last sentence was rather long but the idea is how do edit in a cut-away shot?

Well, it depends on whether you want the original audio playing during the new piece of video.

You mute the audio by doing an Edit\ Native Audio and changing the value to -34.

If you want to use the original audio track, you'll need to switch to the Timeline View, click on the + - icon and display all the tracks. Then drag the new video to the Overlay Track. You can drag it to the location that you want it to start. That will completely cover the original video and still play the original video. You'll have to right click on the Overlay and choose Edit\ Native Audio to mute the audio in the overlay track.

If you don't need to use the original audio track, just drag the video to the Storyline or Timeline and mute the Native Audio. You can either trim the video in the Timeline View by Splitting it at the start and end points and deleting the parts you don't want, or choose Adjust Duration.

Does that help?
