Text problem

lbacha

Question

I hope someone other than myself has had this problem, and solved it, because I've been in touch with the Roxio support crew for weeks and all their suggestions have failed. I've been using Roxio Media Creator 7 for two years now, creating terrific slide shows with my digital pictures, adding color panels with text, adding text to the picture panes, adding music to the slide show, burning to DVD, etc. My last production was three full DVD's of my Italian travels during Nov. 2006. When I went to make a slide show in March 2007 I was unable to burn to DVD. I was told to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and roll back to IE6. After doing that I was able to burn to DVD but I've lost the text option. When I create a slide show and click on the text button at the bottom of the Media Selector pane (the one with the ABC icon) only 3 choices comes up and all three are the same lettering, but each with an alternated motion e.g. "Fly in top Left", "Fade In", or "Fade in & out". No other choices are available in the drop-down button. Does anyone know how to get the full text options back? I'm really upset over this and would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

IE7 is known to break EMC 7 (WMP 11 does the same). Even though you have uninstalled IE7, EMC 7 may still be broke. Have you tried a repair install of EMC 7? Otherwise full re-install of EMC 7 may be necessary

Microsoft introduced the .dll library and encouraged others to share .dlls and everything was alledgedly going to work in harmony. But some software (most notably Microsoft) then overwrote those .dll's with files that have the same name and different contents.

Uninstalling the program that changed the contents does not change the file back to what it was. Only a repair install can do that. (Hopefully repair will work, rather than having to uninstall/reinstall.)

--- You can do a REPAIR by going to Windows Control Panel\ Add Remove Programs\ Roxio EMC7\ CHANGE\ REPAIR.

---- In some rare cases, spyware/viruses/trojans have been known to cause similar problems, so make certain you've scanned for viruses and spyware.

---- It's also possible that the Media Manager Database ( part of EMC 7 ) has become corrupt. You can repair it with these instructions provided by grandpabruce.

Removing the existing Media Manager database so it can be rebuilt

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications

b. Open 'my computer'

c. Double click on the 'C:' drive and browse to 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio' where 'USERNAME' is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the 'MediaManager' folder and choose rename

e. Call the folder 'MediaManager.old'

f. Now try launching the Easy Media Creator 7 Home or Media Manager

I hope this thanks gets to ML-Member #113. I had been in repeated contact with Roxio Support team since April 30th on this text issue and they kept giving me all these things to do to my hard drive. I think they were completely clueless as to how to solve the problem which you solved did in 6 easy steps. You can't imagine they run-around they gave me. Thanks again. Your help was priceless. lbacha
