Burning compilation CD in Toast

Hi, I'm a new Toast user as well as a new MacBook Pro owner. I've had a lot of experience with Macs but this is a new area using Toast. I'm trying to compile a Ray Charles album from my Atlantic recordings downloading the tracks from the CDs directly into Toast. What I get back however can best be described as digital hash. What am I doing wrong, what do I need to engage and how can I get what I lay down to come back as music instead of weird digital hash? The book has been no help!

The current version of Toast 8 is having trouble extracting audio from CDs. I suggest either dragging the tracks from the CD to the Finder or using iTunes to import the tracks as AIFF from the CD and then using those files for your compilation.
