Editing main menu

HaroldH

Question

I have a project that I saved as a .DMSM file, on the way to burning a DVD. I'm new at this stuff and so have an error in the project's main menu. I can load the .DMSM file into EMC, but I can't figure out how to get to the screen that let's me edit the menu. Is this a possible thing to do?

Thanks for any suggestions...

Since .dmsm is a Videowave project file, can I assume you are tyring to load that into MyDVD 9? MyDVD is the application for creating the DVD menus and buttons.

I think I'm confused by the fact that EMC is actually a "suite" of applications, and I'm trying to look at it as a unified program. So... Maybe my question should be this:

The DVD disk that I produced works fine, but I would like to make a change on the main menu. Is there a way to do this [not on the physical disk itself, of course], or do I have to start completely over again to be presented anew with the menu-editing capability?

Once the disc is burned, you can not change that. You are correct. EMC 9 is a 'suite' of individual applications which does more than just video. The two applications needed for video is :

Videowave for EDITING and MyDVD 9 for authoring.

Editing includes stuff like putting several videos or clips into a single movie. Adding text, transitions, special effects, picture in picture, adding music tracks and the best place to create a slideshow. You can save the project in .dmsm OR 'output to file'.

Authoring (MyDVD) is where you create the actual DVD menus, sub-menus, chapter marks, etc. You can create a button by adding a Videowave production file (.dmsm) or a movie file. MyDVD 9 project files are saved as .dmsd files. If you do not pre-render the video in Videowave (output to MPEG), then MyDVD will render the video just before burning to disc. If you saved your MyDVD project, you can reload it at any time to change or edit the menus. A new disc will then be burned.

Hope this helps.

If you want to make a major change in the menu - make a custom menu, read and watch this. For the full process from files to DVD, read this.

Thanks to Gary and Steve for the explanations & guidance. As well as solving my immediate problem, I now need to do some experimenting with VideoWave & MyDVD, to learn how to get more control over what they do. I may be back with more questions.
