mpeg-2 codec

Question

I have just bought a new pc with vista and Roxio Creator 9 XE pre-installed, when I went to burn a dvd and started the 'My DVD' program it returns with a prompt to activate the 'Mpeg-2 codec', when I select ok it states 'No-permission Bad-install'. I select ok and the program closes. Can anyone offer any help :(

I think this is the first time I've heard about this error on a pre-installed copy of EMC. I've had this error a upgrade install and the only way I could get past it was to do a clean install. But since you got this on a new pc, I'd get right on the phone and contact their support for help.

I'm not sure how you are opening MyDVD. (From the Roxio Home Page Icon, or from Start--All Programs etc.) But could you try this just to see if it makes any difference:

Open MyDVD by going to START--All Programs--Roxio EMC 9--Video--MyDVD, and see if you get the same mpeg-2 codec screen. My EMC 9 did NOT come pre-installed on my computer but rather from a clean installation of the program and content CD's. And every time I tried to open MyDVD the same thing happened and it wouldn't let me activate the mpeg-2 codecs. Then just by chance one day I happened to open MyDVD from the above suggested method and low and behold I did not get that same screen. And what's even more remakable, I used the program and burned a previously made Viodeowave production (dmsm saved file) and from then on everything has been O.K. as long as I open MyDVD form the Start menu.

I certainly can't say that it is a cure for your problem but it did work for me. Good luck and if you are still having the same problem, I also think you should take the beerman's suggestion and call who ever you bought the computer from for some explanation and help.
