How to use the scenes after dectection

singsalot0

Question

I have done the scene detection, added new movie, and opened media selector to import scenes. It won't let me. And why do I have to go thru those steps? If I've already added the movie, then I've got two copies of the movie. Why can't I just put the scenes into the story/timeline? I don't want to have to edit the entire movie (scenes) manually. I must say I don't like this software as it is extremely difficult to use. I have just started trying to do this and haven't gotten far after hours of research and work. Thanks for your help! oh, and what to use videowave or mydvd?

I don't know any of that- I just know I have tons of memory, my laptop is a Dell E1505 withwintors XP and the intel duo Core.

I used the software to create the scenes, I am trying to use VideoWave or myDVD, I used the Media Selector to try to drag the scenes (which it won't let me do), and the video was saved in Mpeg not AVI. I am to the point of returning this software for the 50% I might get back and getting Pinnacle. grrrr.

You have not told us what you are doing and how you are doing it. It also appears that you are not reading and trying to understand the possible solutions to your problem. You are getting a lot of different images and advice since you seem to be unable to describe what you are doing -- or even what you want to do. I think you have at least two and possibly more people confused.

If you can't drag the scenes, did you try using the procedure that I suggested to add the scenes? For now, why don't you just add the entire video to VideoWave - switch to timeline view and then cut out what you don't want? That is very easy to do. and may save you some time now until you become more familiar with the program.

I guess I'm trying to be a little harsh because you just seem to come back with posts that reflect your original post (I can't add scenes) and never tell us what you have done and what the results were. This is a two way street you have to provide us as much information as we have provided you. Please no rants in return; I'm trying to help but I can't do it for you.

Use Belarc Advisor to get the information on your computer. Post it in your signature. You could have any one of three processors, you could have anywhere from 512 MB of memory (just barely enough) to up to 2GB, your video chip should be OK but the drivers may need to be updated. You may also need to update DirectX 9c. You computer now comes with Vista. Was the original OS XP or Vista when you bought the computer?

You can. In Video Wave, when you go to add Photos/Videos, at the top of the window what opens, select the top icon to the left. This is the "My Media" view. You may have to do some navigating to the files and scene but when you do, just add the ones you want. You should see something like this with the scenes marked accordingly.

"Chapters" are different. Those are individual makers in a Video that allow the viewer to start a movie at a particular point. Go to the V9 Tips and Tricks area to read about marking chapters.

Ok, I followed your instructions and found the scenes, selected them, and then clicked "open". It then returned me to the production screen but didn't add anything. I tried that a couple times so it didn't work. I was so excited for you help but I'm still stuck! oiye!

Perhaps you have another problem because it should have worked. Please post your computer specs and very important, your video card/chip along with the driver version.

What format was the original files when you created the scenes? Are you using VideoWave or CineMagic? How did you do the scene selection? Did you use Media Manager for that?

Edit to add :I think I just duplicated your issue. If I opened MyDVD and then selected CineMagic movie. I selected a scene and tried to add it; no luck. When I added a video, then I got an options to select scenes. When I did that, I got the following:

After that it got tricky. If you use Windows CTRL-Enter to select the scenes, and then clicked on remove selected, only the remaining scenes will show up. You can do the opposite and select the scenes and then use scenes. Put a check mark on the scenes you want to use. When you go back to the previous screen, you will see the first image of the video and if you click on the little down arrow, you will see the selected scene. Click next and then the transition and then on the left bottom, select preview. It will preview the video using only the selected scenes.

Open Videowave

Click on SHOW MEDIA SELCTOR under TOOLS.

Use the first TAB. If you see the file with a small arrow pointing down, click on that to see the scenes. Drag any scene to the Storyboard or Timeline.

Using Steve's method, you have to choose a scene or scenes and then click OPEN. Using the other method, you can drag down random scenes from different files without the dialog box closing.
