Question

I have created a dsdm file in VideoWave9. I am ready to burn it to a DVD. I have opened MyDVD and tried to add the dsdm file but it won't recognize it. The file is there to select from in my documents but there is a "no" symbol (red circle w/line thru it). Any help please?? Am I missing steps? I also tried something called "render" but the preview screen is black and the progress does not advance. Am I supposed to do this and is it supposed to take this long??? I'm so lost! Thank you in advance

SUCCESS!!!!! My hubby installed latest video drivers and surprised me by burning the myDVD project for me!!! HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!! The music was a little choppy, but he said he burned it at a low quality and I've seen the threads about choppy music so I'll follow those rules.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!

I"ll ask my hubby to do that for me! One other thing I noticed. When I try to burn from MyDVD I'll check the task mgr and it says Roxio is "running". Then I'll let it go for about another 30min-1hr and it's still 0% and I check the task mgr again and it says "not responding". Thank you again!

That 0% is not actually a case of the program freezing, as you should still be able to cancel out of it. The 0% is usually resolved bye updateing your video card drivers. Go to Nvidia's site and download the latest driver for that card. Make sure you follow their Driver Installations Hints Document which basically tells you to uninstallyour current drivers, reboot to the basic Windows VGA drivers, then install the new ones.

That's not unusual, and you should still be able to cancel it from the progress window. Once you get the video driver updated, then try it and let us know what happens.

The dmsm/dmsd files from EMC9 are project files. In MyDVD Plus are .dvd files the project files? If so then you're probably out of luck.

It seems weird that 2 current versions (if Plus is) of MyDVD would have 2 different kinds of project files.

The project files are just a list of what files and their locations are to be on the disc.Might be just as easy to make a new project with EMC9.

How can I burn dmsm/dmsd files I made in EMC9 using My DVD Plus? It keeps looking for .dvd files and I all have are dmsm/dmsd files. Thanks in advance!

Is the "myDVD" you are using part of your EMC9 package or is it Sonic's "myDVD Plus"? They are different programs (and quite confusing to the user).

Just remember you can't just take the dmsm file. You also have to take all the files that are in the project and they have to be in the same locations (folders) on their harddrive as on yours or it won't work.

Basically you can't. My DVD project files are not interchangeable between the Roxio EMC versions (v8 and 9 so far) and the Sonic based versions like MyDVD plus is (based on the v6 and earlier Sonic set).

I'm trying to use the Sonic myDVD Plus and it's not recognizing the files I created in EMC9. See the whole problem is that I was freezing up when trying to burn my DVD project. I knew we had a roxio version at work, but I found out today it's the Sonic myDVD plus. Just trying plan b,c,d,e.....

What type of file did you use in Videowave? It sounds like a codec problem. Be sure you have the correct codec for your file type.

OH NO!! What if I saved it as a .dmsd file? I can't take just that to my friends to burn from her Roxio?

We need more information. Videowave production file is .dmsm. MyDVD 9 project file is .dmsd. If you have a .dmsd file, then use FILE/OPEN in MyDVD.

If you have a .dmsm file, then you need to use the ADD VIDEO/IMAGE option.

No, dmsd file is not enough. Dmsm/dmsd are files that contain information as to the source of the multimedia files used in your Videowave/MyDVD as well as their exact location in your system and all editing instructions. For MyDVD, there is also the corresponding dat file that gets created along with dmsd.

See how stressed I am? You're correct - it is a .dmsm file I have created in VideoWave. I have tried to burn it in MyDVD Express in Video Wave. I've gotten to the Burn Project screen where the encoding preview has been blank for the last 43 mintues and the progression is zilch. I'm so ready to cry!

Those are typically solved by updating the drivers for your video card and updating directx.

That being said I am really going to cry now!! I tried to burn again from MyDVD but the burn project screen still froze and when I opened my task manager theCPU usage was 100%. Does that mean Ihave toomuch running not allowing the burn to process??

For the CPU usage to go to 100% is normal whyen rendering/burning a DVD.

How long are you waiting before you decide the program is "frozen"? To create a 1 hour video for a DVD can take from 1-4 hours depending on your system, on the source files, free space on your hard drive plus a few other factors.

Also list your system specs similar to what I and others have in their signature.

I have actually let it try toburn all night long. My project is only 20 min long (pictures, video clips, transistions). In the morning it's still at 0% progress :o( Here are the specs I could locate:

Gateway, service pack 2

Windows XP, version 2002

AMD Athlong 64 Processor

2.21 GHz, 896 MB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 6100

Thank you!!

A codec is a compression decompression instruction for the computer to work with certain file types. If you download Gspot and then add that file into it, it will tell you if you have the right codec on your computer. Where did you get the file and what extension do you see after the name if you use Windows to explore to that file.

Let's start a little further back. Put your computer specs in your signature. Go to the top of this page and select My Controls and then on the left about halfway down, there is edit signature. Put your specs there and it will show up in all your posts including your old ones. With that information, perhaps we can see if the problem you are seeing is hardware related. (mostly video card/chip).

The second thing I would suggest is to output that project to a mpg2 for DVD best. The icon for doing that is the film reel above the preview window in VideoWave. If that does not render or renders black, it could be your computer video set up. Do not use MyDVD Express to burn the file to a disc. Open MyDVD and add that mpg2 files and encode that.

Since you are a new user, I would also suggest that you do not take any shortcuts until you are very familiar with the program. In the Tips and Tricks area of the V9 forum, there is a lot of goo information. I suggest you print off the one about one way of doing it and use it as a reference.

Thanks for the clarification. I will try all you have suggested. And I guess if worse comes to worse I will save the file in MyDVD on a USB jump drive then take it to a friend who has had much success in burning from Roxio and let her burn my project for me to meet my deadline ;o)

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND HELP!!!!
