UPGRADING FROM EMC9/MYDVD9 BASIC EDITION

jdmac29

Question

I just purchased hp media center pc, vista home premium. It came preinstalled with emc9/mydvd 9 basic.

I am having the same problem as FILMER on 5/31/07 about EMC doesn't start up but my problem is mydvd9 basic will not start from programs or from the emc9 menu. There were no discs with my computer so hp has a recovery system where I uninstalled mydvd9 and reinstalled mydvd9 but I still can no get it to work.

I don't think I can do a clean install since I don't have an original disc.

The upgrade download is 69.99 but at 500 megs I don't have broadband so I was told I would have to order the cd, which adds to the price with shipping. My local costco sells the software boxed version ( same price) and I went and looked at it and it has compatibly with vista sticker on box.

Would installing the complete suite fix my problem with my dvd9?

Is there any difference in the boxed version and the one roxio will send you?

Should I uninstall the basic version of both before I install the cd?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are two versions floating around - the 'red box' one is a cut down version of EMC9 (there is also a red box version of ECD6 which looks similar but doesn't have the Vista sticker)

Which version CostCo have is impossible to say - the download version is 9.1.068, the retail versions are supposed top be the same, but there could be old stock meaning you would get 9.0 (and we're still waiting (less and less patiently) for the promised patch to 9.1

Well I ended up buying from costco and my version is 9.0.088, the sticker on the box said compatible with vista, xp, and 2000. No official vista sticker. I uninstalled all roxio basic applications from add remove programs then did the clean install procedure before I installed the full version, I had to do the dla patch after that everything worked except for mydvd9, the program would not open. I did not use the windows utility cleanup program but tonight I will to uninstall with that and give it another try.

9.0.088? -- I believe this is the initial released version.

I thought the Vista-certified version was already being shipped to major retailers (I consider Costco a major retailer) based on this announcement. :(

Well I went to Target today and they had 2 boxes one has the official windows vista certified sticker on it and the other one had a plain stick saying compatible with vista, xp, and 2000( which is what I got at costso)

I paid $10.00 less at costco from what the target price was.

I still can't get mydvd9 to open so I am going to do a clean install tonight and hopefully it will work.
