Can't copy discs made with iDVD....

WakkoWarner

Question

I have been transferring video to my G5. I use iMovie to edit & iDVD to burn the discs. The problem is that when I use Toast to try & make copies, the copy process starts to burn & then immediately fails (usually with some goofy 'media' error). I am using Princo 8x DVD-R discs. I find this to be extremely annoying, because it takes forever to create more copies of the discs using iDVD. My drives are the Apple factory 16x DL DVD burner & a BenQ 16x DL DVD burner in a Kanguru external Firewire case. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try this: insert the disc from iDVD and - with the disc selected in the Toast Copy window - choose Save as Disc Image from the Toast File menu. Then burn that disc image using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window.

Also, iDVD 5 and 6 let you save as disc image instead of burning DVDs. You can then burn multiple copies of DVDs using Toast from that disc image.

You also may want to choose a slower speed than "Best" when burning the discs.

Well, there is no need to do anything different. The problem was bad RAM. I had recently added another 2 GB of RAM & one of the DIMMs had a bad module on it. I just sent it back today for warranty replacement & they are going to thoroughly check the replacement RAM to be sure that it passes the Apple Hardware Test. I copied two of my iDVD produced discs (one of them at 8x) & no problems at all. Just thought everyone might like to know.
