Burn DVD would crash at 14% completion, then......

MonaVie for Life

Question

Hi, My name is Chris and I am a new user. I just purchased the EMC suite yesterday. I have some limited use of Sony Vegas 5 so I new the basics of navigating. I successfully created and saved a DVD that I wish to burn. I attempted to burn the DVD and simultaneously create an image.

Each time that I attempted to burn the program crashed at approximately 12% completion. At first I simply restarted the PC and tried it again but I got the exact same results.

I then came to this forum and read that most of the burning issues are related to required driver updates so I went to MS support site and downloaded the most up to date Direct X.

THEN THIS HAPPENED.

After updating Direct X Roxio now advises me that my "Video card does not meet minimum requirements" and "my DVD" won't even open.

TWO QUESTIONS:

How can I tell what type and of video card that I have? I know that I can go to the manufactures site and update the drivers but I am not sure what brand I have. I believe that it is an SV3? Is that possible?

What are the minimum requirements to run "my DVD" and how can I check to see if my card meets those requirements?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I think the best way to find out all about your computer is to download Belarc Advisor which will take an inventory of your pc. Then you can find out as much about your system as you want.

Also, in MyDVD, Tools, you can change the video render from hardware to software or vice versa. However, you should update your video drivers and burner firmware.

Thanks John,

I learned today that I have an onboard Video Card and that I do not have enough RAM allocated in the BIOS to my card. I am seeing my local computer guy (that I purchase all my hardware and maintenance for my other two business's from) and he is going to allocate more memory in the BIOS as a service to me at no charge.

I'll see post back to let you know if this works.

As far as the inventory program I will forgo it for now but I will certainly use your suggestion if allocating more RAM doesn't work.

Thanks for the post, I really appreciate it!

Two GOOFY things; I meant Thanks Paul!!!!!!

I am sorry that I typed your name wrong.

And, when you say "render from software or hardware" what are the pros and cons of each option and which do you prefer?

Thanks Paul.

Some cards/drivers won't work with hardware render but in hardware mode, MyDVD uses the video card to render and usually is faster and I think, better quality. Software mode will most likely be slower on many systems and not all the effects can be used. If you have a choice, hardware is the way to go and if you have the right video card, this should be set on it's own but it's a good idea to check.

Paul,

Man you were correct but let I digress. My computer guy agreed that naving an on board card may not be the right hardware for this type of intense use. He suggested and I bought and INVIDIA video card with 256 memory. I could have increased my on board memory up to 64 but we were both concerned with quality issues.

As such, the INVIDIA card is great. I rendered my first DVD (Very cool by the way). I rendered it using "software" option and it took quite some time. However, the quality seems to be as good as anything I buy at the store. So other than the render time it am very pleased.

Anyway, I am going to render another DVD this weekend and I intend to use the "hardware" option and I'll post back to share my experiences with speed using that option.

Thanks a million!

Good move! I'd definitely stick to hardware mode but have you tried the graphics test yet? Sounds like you're good to go.
