Drag to Disk won't work with Vista

Dave Hurwitz

Question

I have a new Dell with Vista installed. I installed the new Drag to Disk download and tried copying files to a blank CD. Drag to Disk seem to format the disk but when I try to copy a file to the disk, it says the disk is read-only. Any suggestions? I have not been able to find any answers to this problem so far on the internet.

It was Dell that demanded a patch from Roxio.

But that patch was only to resolve the drive incompatible message.

That's what I thought. I got the DLA error message, uninstalled Drag to Disk and waited for the updated program. I installed the new program when it became available and it loads up and looks like it's working until it makes a coaster out of a CD.

I think I have figured out the problem but not the solution. I can use Drag to Disk to copy files to a CD but not write to the disk from within a program. I think Vista is intercepting the backup request and trying to write to the disk. If I let Vista try to format the disk it becomes unusable. I think two programs are competing for the same disk. Probably I should just give up as packet-writing is unreliable anyway. I just use it for quick and dirty backups and later make another CD with Creator Classic for a permanent backup.
