Splitting A Single Video to Many

Jeremiah

Question

Hi there, I was wondering if there is any way to edit my large video file (58minutes) and split it into many different files which I can save individually. Any help is appreciated. A single file will not suffice, as they will be used on USB storage devices, then displayed on plasma screens around the work place. Thanks.

Hey Malatekid, what do you mean by "cut out" a clip? How is that done? I liked the earlier version of Video Wave (5, I think) where I could select a clip and just render that selection separately on the spot so as to add more effects upon effects, etc. However, in EMC 7, I can't figure out how to do that. The closest I come is having to select a clip, copy it, then paste into a new production then render that. Then place that into current project.

Is there a simpler way?

You can "cut out" section of the large video file in Videowave. Then output it in a format that you need (e.g., mpg). Do this process as many times as you need to extract all sections you need.

PS: Sorry, earlier, I made the mistake of clicking the Edit button in your post instead of the Reply button. Hence, my reply became part of your post which I rectified immediately.

OK, I have figured that out, however, I am clipping monkey behaviors out of raw forest footage... tons of it. So there are going to be MANY clips. Is there anyway to do this output without rendering the file everytime? I am assuming not. Can you think of anyway to speed the process up?

Thanks.

What kind of files are you saving for use on those USB storage devices?

Unless each clip needs to be stored separately, each clip doesn't have to be output individually. You output a production that contains the clips that you want stored in each file. ( Splitting into clips is best done in the Timeline View.)

Now VideoWave does have a feature called 'smart render' where certain files can be rendered more quickly, but we'd need to know what you're outputting to tell you if it's possible.
