MyDVD very slow to burn, and unsuccessful

Asmiie2b

Question

I am new to using MyDVD, included with VideoWave 8.

I am not able to get a succesfull dvd burn out of it. The encoding takes an extreme amount of time, up to 6 hours, and then the program appears to freeze.

I have updated the PX engine, my dvd firmware and driver is the latest, as is my video memory.

I have no problem burning with other software at all.

Any help would be much appreciated..

No one has ever claimed that V8 is the fastest… Actually when it was introduced, some went back to V7 for the speed.

However speed is directly linked to your CPU! A 1 hour production takes about:

8 hours on a 550mhz

4 hours on a 1.6ghz

2 hours on a 3.0ghz

If the source files are already compliant and you haven't added a lot of things to it, I usually see 1 hour or less on my 3.0ghz.

Doing in 2 steps takes the same amount of time. Render is render and Burn is burn regardless if the steps are taking place in one program or 2… The real advantage is that if the burn fails and you have an iso file, you don't have to render it a second time.

Likewise, sound sync issues don't seem to happen this way as they do with 'one step' burning.

Sounds like a very good idea....

I have saved all my projects and iso files in an external hard drive..

so I can add to the projects or just burn the iso files in no time..

Just being helpful

Thanks

What are your system specs, especially your video card and burner(s)?

Sorry for my late reply.

Ok I see that I may be experiencing normal behaviour. I am burning a lot of small avi file, so that factor combined with my environment would be taking time to render. I like Raji's tip on the external drive, I will definately try that.

cheers

Thank you for the reply.

I am using an HP notebook.

I have 1GB of memory (roughly 600MB free before launching MyDVD).

Celeron M processor 1.73GHZ. The drive is a Pioneer DVR-K16. The DVD write speed maximum is 10x

(Although the application doesn't seem to be getting past the encoding). The video memory is 128MB.

The video card is listed as an "Mobile Intel ® 915GM,GMS,910GML, Epress Chipset family."

Could there be an incompatibility with the dvd drive or video?

Technically your cpu and video card are below the minimum specs, you should be able to get by…

You will want to set VW and MyDVD to Software Render – Tools Options.

Likewise, instead of trying to burn directly to disc with MyDVD, select File (iso) as your output. After it completes building the file, use Disc Copier to burn that file to disc.

With a 1.7ghz Celeron processor, it is going to take time to render. Any background applications or using the computer while it is rendering, with greatly increase this time.

James,

Many thanks for that info.

I wasn't sure whether to go for hardware or software render, so will give software a try.

It seems a bit messy to save to iso then use disc copier, but if that must be I will give it a try too.

It does seem strange to me though, when I can burn directly to DVD in about 2.5 hours with another tool (that will remain nameless). Videowave is the only tool with good flexible text overlays, so I shall try my bets to get this to work!

thanks again.
