Toast 7 Spin Doctor editing.

Question

I'm trying to delete excessive blank time at the beginning of a file in Toast 7 Spin Doctor and haven't succeeded in doing it. I try to choose the time at the beginning and delete it and save the remaining chosen remainder of the file but it doesn't seem to make much difference. In Toast, there is still too much time between tracks even at 0 setting.

Maybe I don't understand how to do this? (Yes, I think I did succeed in deleting blank time at the end of the preceding track but am not sure.)

Thanks,

Ed

I have a new question: Can Spin Doctor change the audio level of a too-soft aif or other file? I'm not sure the filters work on this. I was able to change this in another program but I don't see what to do here.

Thanks,

Ed

You might get the effect you want using the Exciter in the Sound Enhancer filter section or using the EQ10 equalizer controls.

Thanks but the Exiter made a terrible mess of this particular file (it worked better with another file.) I will try the EQ but I'm dubious. It seems to me, some older versions of Spin Doctor were better at increasing volume.

And yes, I saved the original version.

new edit: Yes, it seems the equalizer is the way to do it. For a simple change I think you use the master but I think you can change it for various frequencies as well. So, I apologize for doubting the program. ;-)

You can drag the start and end time of the track markers to fine tune where the track begins and ends. You don't delete any part of the waveform. Parts of the waveform that are unselected (not within any track) are simply left out when the tracks are exported or saved. It's a good idea to change Spin Doctor preferences so you can zoom in more on the waveform when you want to fine tune the start and end points.

Thanks, Tsantee,

I did all that but what I didn't realize was that on saving, you have to "save active tracks."

Then I burned the disk in Toast (7.l.2) to a blank CD-R at 8x (Using built-in CD burner) and the result was a disk nothing would recognize. And no, it wasn't in simulation mode. I suppose I should have tried it on an RW first. I usually use the LaCie CD-DVD burner but I don't know if that would have made a difference.

Which made it all the more puzzling that I successfully burned a CD-RW (except for messing up one of the tracks by unwittingly not recording the beginning of it but, no harm done.) This was done at 4x because of the slow speed of the disk. It was done in the same burner as the first one.
