shakedown
I have had the same computer with the same configuration for over 2 years. I have a Plextor PX712A and Roxio CD Creator v6.20.134 SP2. Burned hundreds of audio CDs with very few coasters. However, last week it suddenly stopped burning. It would get about 3-5% on the first track and then freeze. I tried different batches of discs and different tracks to burn which are wav files on my hard drive. I defraged and rebooted - but nothing made a difference. I then downloaded a trial version of NERO and the discs burn just fine. Any idea what is up.
Brendon
Two thoughts spring to mind: (actually 1 thought sliced thin) (1) something has corrupted one of the DLLs or settings that Creator 6 uses. An uninstall, followed by a cleanout of Roxio things with Roxizap, followed by a reinstall might cure that. (2) MS updates to I.E.7 or WMP11 may have killed it. In this case a roll-back of the offending software, followed by the uninstall/cleanout/reinstall would be indicated. No guarantees because neither Roxio nor MS are inclined to tell us volunteers the technical proprietory details of what they are up to.

I stay away as much as possible from IE and have not installed IE7 at all and also don't use Windows Media Player (all my upgrades are done manually). However, I know crap leaks in without consent whenever any upgrades or installations are done. I'll get back to you on the re-install of CC6. BTW - All I want is a simple burning program for CDs. For audio, I want to make the default test and burn and no 2-second gaps for DAO options. All these trial-ware programs such as Nero are way too much for what I want. I miss the days when Adaptec had the software.

ogdens
Creator Classic would not open - kept getting error message about missing API. I am getting very frustrated. Have a look at this and see if it helps you... http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...;hl=missing+API You also have a OEM version of Roxio, which means you got the program with your computer or burner. It also means that ALL support for OEM's comes from the provider of the software. The URL I provided above is for Roxio's full retail version(not your OEM), but you can try it anyway, nothing to loose.

I tried all the suggestions with no luck. I don't mind paying for a decent burner program, but so far all I see is way-over-the-top with features that I don't want/need. This is very frustrating. Brendon
The missing API errors are usually from a screwed-up install. I did have one occasion where I had to 'clean out and reinstall' several times. It finally worked on the fourth install. [a number of other installs worked fine, first try] I have no idea what I did right (if anything) on the fourth occasion or what I may have done wrong (if anything) on the other three. I am not totally confident that the installer is completely robust. It may be worth your while to try a few more times. All the best, Brendon
