Editing Out "x-rated" Parts Of Home Movies

arnold931

Question

I have a couple of VHS tapes full of home movies that I want to make DVD's out of to give to the kids. There are some scenes where they are taking baths or running around the house naked as babies. To avoid embarrasing them, I would like to edit out parts of the frame. Is Pan and Zoom the best way to go? I assume EMC8 doesn't have a way to "pixelate" parts of the frame.

The Pan and Zoom seems like a cool idea...

But, there are a few things you can do. These are probably not what you expected, but here goes:

1.) Add black-box overlays over the "X-rated" parts of the footage, like they do on some tv shows. You can do this with anything you want, even colorful images like that do on "American Idol" when someone swears.

2.) Darken or add effects to the whole thing to make the "X-rated" parts invisible. This is kind of stupid, but hey, it just might work!

3.) I'm sure that there are many other ways... I don't know about "pixalization", but check out your effects and overlay menus. Remember, you can consomize ever effect and overlay to a specific position and size, and contrast on the screen (in the overlay edit menu).

P. S. Does EMC8 have the same problems as 7? Just wondering.

Take it from me, you'll want to show those deleted scenes to their boyfriends and girlfriends when they get older. Or at least, threaten them with it. You should see the look on my 14 year olds face when I tell him I can't wait to get to know his future girlfriends and their parents. :)
