"Project Is Empty"

act4yew

Question

I am having tremendous difficulty getting this project done after having successfully CAPTURING video, EDITING, PREVIEWING and BURNING several times in the past.

I DOWNGRADED from IE 7 and WMP 11 and am still getting an ERROR MESSAGE ("Project Is Empty") while I'm looking right at my PROJECT in the 1st PRODUCTION EDITOR frame. The HEADING of the frame, however is "INTRO".

ADDITIONALLY, I have the PROJECT in my MEDIA SELECTOR Choices TWICE. One is a 5.83GB sized mpeg file (TOO LARGE fot BURN to my 4.7GB disk). The other is a 388.96 MB sized WMV file. BOTH are an hour and 39 minutes in time, so I assume that I have the ENTIRE Project SAVED in BOTH formats. I had 8.59GB FREE FILE SPACE, but I seem to get lower each time I attempt to go through the BURN PROCESS.

PLEASE HELP!!! I have to get this done BEFORE I can upgrade my PC to a much larger HD and double my 512MB RAM.

I think the key to your problem is the above sentence. Somehow the production got put into the INTRO instead of the main menu. I found the solution for this a few months back for someone else and luckily I was able to locate the solution.

(This may sound odd, but this is the easy way to get the production from the Intro to the Main Menu.)

Open your project in DVD Builder and look at the drop down menu in the very top right hand corner.

If it says 'Intro', you're going to have to do a few things ( or start over ).

First, select Title Menu 1 from that menu. Now select Add Title and put a picture there ( you can take out this 'placeholder picture' later).

Now switch back to Intro. Hold down the Ctrl key and with your mouse, click on each picture/video and transition so that they are outlined in orange. Then do a Ctrl + C to copy everything.

Switch back to the Title Menu 1, click on the # 2 box and do a Ctrl + V to paste the pictures and transitions.

Once you are sure everything has been copied correctly, go back to the Intro and from the top menu choose DVD Menu. At the bottom of the menu is Remove Intro Title, select that.

Now remove the 'placeholder picture' that you put into the first frame of 'Title menu'.

Now you should be able to burn normally.

( In .iso file is and 'image file' which appears below your DVD burner in the Burn menu. It's a good way to burn multiple copies of a production and it also can give more successful burns. Once you've made the file, you double click on it and that opens Disk Copier for burning.)

In "BURN SETUP", I get "INCOMPATIBLE DRIVE".... This shouldn't be so difficult, should it? I have to get this BURNED for a Festival in Houston by this evening.

It shouldn't be that difficult, but sometimes it is.

What kind of DVD drive do you have?

Try this knowledgebase article and the part you're looking for is the pxengine update instructions on the bottom where you install the update then uninstall your DVD burner and reboot.

Do you have any other DVD burning programs on that computer? If you do and that program recognizes your DVD drive, you can probably use that program to burn the 'image file' (.iso) to a DVD. An image file contains an 'image' of what DVD Builder burns to a DVD so you'll have a finished DVD.

(Whenever I've got a project due, everything goes wrong and it seems that you've got my luck. :( )

I have a SAMSUNG -DVD-ROM SD-616 I will try COPY & PASTE of the file which shows up, but I think it has your DSM or something extension and can ONLY be work on in EMC7

You can't burn to a DVD-ROM drive, those only read discs. Do you have another disc drive that you've burned to before (you stated you've burned stuff in the past)?

A "NEC NR - 7900a" in my E:Drive You may have hit upon a sad reality. I've never BURNED A DVD, but I used EMC 7 for CAPTURING, EDITING and POSTING video clips to WEB.

That NEC looks like it's a burner, but it only burns CD discs. If those are the only two optical drives you have, then you'll need to get a drive that can burn DVD discs if that's what you want to do.

Have you tried burning and .iso file, then burn it to disc with disc copier? Usually it is best to limit your projects to one hour, but going the .iso route you can usually get more on a disc.

No, I haven't, as I don't know what an ".iso file" is or where to find the "disk copier". Please advise.

Good detective work, Larry. :)

act4yew, If you want to save that production before you upgrade your RAM and hard drive, you have choices.

- IF you have a USB 2.0 port on that computer, you can purchase an external DVD burner. ( Best Buy has one on sale for $70 this week, but other stores have them for similar prices.)

Now I don't know if DVD Builder will let you do this without a DVD burner attached, but if you can get to the Burn Menu, choose Save image file and that will give you a standalone file that you can burn to a DVD in the future.

If you can do that....

- You can purchase an External Hard drive and put that file and any file that you want to save onto that drive.

- If you have a high speed internet connection, you could save the file to one of the services that gives free online storage ( Xdrive has 5 Gb free which would give you enough space for one DVD.)
