No CD or DVD Writer After Vista Install

dcholme

Question

Hi all - apologies if this has already been covered.

Did a Vista install at the weekend and now EMC 9 refuses to see my CD or DVD. They're working everywhere else and are listed in "Computer". Please can anyone help?

Many thanks

Hi

Unfortunately, the patch didn't work.

The sequence os events were:

- EMC9 working no problem with XP.

- Had to upgrade to Vista at the weekend (don't ask!!) and this effectively gave me a clean system with all programs moved to windows.old and needing to be reinstalled. All drives visible in Vista.

- Installed EMC 9 again - comes up with "drives not initialised" or similar.

- Have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Thanks for trying to help - any ideas gratefully received.

Doing an 'upgrade installation' (ie trying to install Vista on a pre-installed OS) is usually problematic in that problems are carried over with it.

There are apps, drivers and so on that will not work with Vista and they remain there and will cause problems.

The best way to install a new OS is, first of all, back up your date (either on another drive, an optical disc, flash drive or whatever) and then format the main drive - wipe EVERYTHING out that is there and do a clean install

I'm sure that's good advice - I only wish I had it earlier!! Is there anything I can do now? I really don't want to have to go through all this pain again.

I can't believe the worlds most popular operating system can't cope with a industry leading product like emc 9.....................

Help!!

mmmmm, not sure now.I'm not at my Vista machine. The only other thing I can think of is it has to do with the Upper and Lower filters.Sometimes these get messed up.a lot of times this happens if you have more than one recording software on your machine and remove one of them. You might try going to Microsoft's Knowledge Base and having a look. There is an article there about removing them.

When I did my Vista setup the first time I also went the upgrade route.I had nothing but troubles.I eventually did a reformat and a clean install of Vista and everything else and now pretty much everything works well.

Thanks mate - I did have to alter the registry upper and lower values to get vista to recognise the drives in the first place - but emc9 still doesn't. It's taken me so much time to get to where it is, I don't think I could start again...............!!

thanks for your help
