capture now/entire tape disabled

javarunner

Question

The 'Capture Entire Tape' and the 'Capture Now' buttons are greyed out.

MyDVD 9 sees my Sony HandiCam and displays the movie on camera's tape in the Preview window. I can rewind, fwd and play tape using the preview controls but i cannot capture video.

Any ideas appreciated...java script:emoticon(':(', 'smid_2')

:(

Me too - see my alternative procedure posted today.

for me too, "capture entire tape" and "capture now" are greyed out!

i bought mydvd9 premiere today, and i was a happy user of sonic mydvd 6.2 i am afraid that this is no way the same product! sonic was fast, efficient, stable. my impression of mydvd9 is that it hangs event on my brand-new computer. worst is: i cannot import any video! the "capture entire tape" and "capture now" buttons are greyed out! i canno import any video this way.

if i start the sonic mydvd 6.2, i can import without problem! its the mydvd9 that cannot!

anybody got a solution?

I'm having the same problem but didn't have sonic mydvd 6.2, did it really work?

I have posted an alternative procedure today, see if it works for you.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried using both my camcorders. I have a Canon ZR20 and a new Canon HV20 HDV.
The Canon will NEVER work when you record using HDV because that uses a totally different codec. If you record in SD, you should be able to capture, but several people have posted problems with Canon camcorders when using Media Import.

To capture HiDef, you will have to use the software that came with the Canon or software that is specifically designed to capture HDV.

They can't fix what they can't reproduce. You haven't given us ANY info to help. I have an older Sony TRV740 and as you can see, both buttons work fine for me so it must be something particular about the two setups.

Which Model of Sony? How do you have it connected? If firewire, do you have the MS Firewire update for SP2? Have you updated DirectX and your video card drivers?

and I'm one of them. You know, I've spent an hour browsing through these threads and I give up. I realize there are different models of camcorder out there. I realize there are various types of cables. I realize there are multiple codecs.

The attitude in some of your responses, however, tries my patience, as does your software. I'm using a new computer which came with "Roxio Creater DE" on it. Good luck finding this application in your product list. I ask "RoxAnn", your cartoon support person, what to do when the capture button in Roxio media import is unavailable, and "her" response is "It sounds like you want to know more about Roxio".

I was able to capture one tape from my Canon using media import, and that's it. The software won't capture any more tapes, including the one it captured successfully earlier, because the Capture buttons are inexplicabley, frustratingly, greyed out. I can capture using Windows Movie Maker, Nero, and Adobe.

Eaither you guys know what you're doing, or you don't. I'm outta here.

Camera is DCR-PC110. According to Sony the DV In/Out port is equivalent to 1394 protocol. When the camera is connected using this DV port I can preview the tape - rewind/play/pause etc - but i cannot capture because the buttons are greyed out. When I use the USB port the camera is not even recognized by the software.

Now, I have to say that the USB port is connected to a USB card on the PC. Perhaps it would recognize it if it were connected to a 1394 port - i have not tried this due to not having a cable. If i were to get one, should it be 4 or 6 pin?

All latest SP2 drivers are up to date.

??? Not sure if I understand. You can only connect a firewire cable into a 1394 port. It won't fit into USB port. The included USB cable is for connecting the camcorder to the computer as a webcam and for transferring still images if the camcorder can do that.

When you said that you could rewind/play/pause, I assumed that you had the camcorder connected correctly. YOU MUST connect the camcorder via firewire. Sony refers to that as iLink (same thing). This connector is usually a 4 pin. The 1394 (firewire or iLink) on the computer is usually a 6 pin unless you have a Sony computer and they use 4 pin as do most laptops.

So exactly HOW do you have the camcorder connected?

My hardware is the same and it worked fine with MyDVD 6.1. I wiped my machine out and did a clean load and put 9.0 on. Both my Capture Entire Tape and Capture are disabled even though the status says "Ready to Capture"

I'm using XP with a Radeon X300 card with 128 mb Video Ram and 3GB DDR2 Ram.

I'm in compliance with all of the tips listed. I'll try movie maker tonight like it said tonight.
