trouble restarting pc

JAODY

Question

Hi forum members,

My problem is that my pc won't reboot after running the roxio cd. The software on it is listed as Roxio Creator 9.05 XE. The program does down load but after I finish the download wizard it says to restart the pc. When it restarts iut just freezes on 'Windows is starting" or something like that. The only way I can get back online is to do a system restore to an earlier date. Today I did 3 of them. My hardware is a MADDOG 18X dvd burner and my OS is WinXP home ed. Any suggestions for resolution of this problem would be greatly welcome.

We'd need a bit more information - mainly your system specs (CPU speed, RAM, Graphics etc - similar to what is in my signature)

Also, you should note that 9.05XE is an OEM version and is supposed to be supported by Maddog

is it home XP Service pack 1? or service pack 2?, to find this out , go start button , and in the run box type winver , a box should show with your OS version ect...

try when starting hitting F8 and select safe mode, and when you are at the desktop , go to the start button and type msconfig, select the end tab (startup) and de-select the roxio stuff?, then close it ( it will ask to save and reboot) do that and see if it go's to the desktop after that?

I've got the exact same problem:

Dell Dimension4500S

XP SP2

1Gb memory

I installed Roxio Creator Plus this afternoon (received it with new DVD just purchased direct from Dell), and since installing my PC is hanging at "windows is starting up..." screen. No movement after that.

Attempted solutions:

1. Starting up in SAFE mode and using control panel to "apply/delete applications." Wouldn't allow any Roxio apps to be deleted.

2. removing all Roxio and Sonic sw

C:\Program Files\Roxio

C:\Program Files\Sonic

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic Shared

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sonic

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Roxio

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Sonic

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Roxio

3. thinking about editing my registry file, according to other reco on this list, but very wary...
