toast hangs X.3.9

Question

hi,

i have toast 7.1.2 on a g4 with X.3.9. i've been trying to burn a dvd from an AVI file using just the basic encoding settings but right at the end of the process the computer hangs and it doesn't appear that the disk has been burned. i have to force a shut down to get out of the hang.

i'm also having trouble with embedded video in safari 1.3.2, same thing with the hangs.

i'm a total newbie, so any help would be good.

thanks

hi,

thanks for the response.

i just tried that after reading more here. toast went through the encoding part, then about 90% through the write it hung up again. it did place an image on the desktop

when i tried to mount it with "disk mounter" the error "no mountable file systems".

i'm using a lacie internal dvd burner, it that makes a diff. i reinstalled the system, with the combo update, then reinstalled taost with the updates.

still hangs.

grrr.

You can mount the .toast file using the Mount button after selecting it in the Copy window or using the Mount item in the Toast Utilities menu.

It appears to me the problem is with either the drive or the disc media. Check the LaCie support site to find if you have the latest firmware for that drive. You might also try a different brand of blank discs. Media-quality problems are very common.

You also could run the extended test from your Hardware Test disc to determine if this is a RAM-related issue. That is not common but is possible.

hi,

i haven't made it to lacie's site yet, thanks for the tip.

i was able to burn two separate dvd's of very short vids, like three minutes. they worked fine, though i need to work on the settings i think. i re-installed toast without the .1.2 update, i try to make a disk image of the much larger file tonight.
