Lost Images On Multi Session Cd

easternherp

Question

How can I retrieve lost sessions on a CD. A friend using a PC burnt a new session onto a CD but didn't import the previous ones. I can see the previous sessions in toast using the ISO format but it says that the imported session files will be inaccessible.

How can I get the files off for him. There are about 20 sessions that I can see.

I'm not sure what will work on the Mac. There are some disk recovery applications you might try because each session now is an unmounted volume. I sure that any of the file recovery services (I once used Drive Savers for a crashed hard drive) can access the earlier sessions on the disc.

Multi-session CD burning has some risks. I've read similar posts where people have had problems when additional sessions are not written in the same format as earlier sessions.

Thought I would just update you all on the problem. I have managed to retrieve the files on the cd using Toast 6.

Here's what i did;

I selected iso9660 as the format and then imported the last session before the chap added the final files that wiped the rest. I then created a disc image to see if it had worked but when opening the disc image it said that the files would not be accessible as they were on a referenced disk. So I added a couple of new files to the ISO disk with the imported session on and then burnt it.

And VOILA!!!! the lost files are back.

Fabulous! I don't know why you thought to try that but you deserve a trouble-shooters medal of honor.
