5.1 surround ?

Marck

Question

I managed to have success burning a blu-ray and playing it on my boss PS3...

Now our next step would be to burn the same stuff, but with our 5.1 surround mix. We have each track seperated. The show was edited in FCP5. I know I can output an AC-3 in compressor from FCP, but I was curious of this:

1- Do I have to do some assigning of the audio tracks ?

2- Can I include the stereo mix as well as the 5.1 audio mix in the AC-3 (8 audio tracks)?

How do I configure all this in DVDit pro HD?

Thanks!

Marck

OK... I've managed to create an AC3 surround in Compressor 2. But when I try to import it in DVDit, it does like it was imported but does not appear in my media in the palette... Why would that be?

Is there a particular settings to encode multi-channel in compressor that will be compliant with DVDit Pro HD?

is there a Little Endian, Big Endian byte order setting in Compressor? one of those is not DVD legal and will not import.

Good question! I looked in compressor and could not find the answer to that... Or why does DVDit can't re-encode if it's not DVD legal (just like other assets that I import) if I set it in the project preferences...

Is there another way that I could create a ac3? I have each audio track ready to encode...

As for a stereo mix, can I add this to my dvd also ? or I have to choose between surround 5.1 OR stereo?

apparently this is a known issue under some circumstances with Compressor:

The post refers to a utility called ac3swapper that can change your byte order. I make no gaurantees.

By the way, make sure your 5.1 audio is the same length or slightly shorter than your video asset. if it is longer by 15 frames or more it will result in a transcode. As to adding your 2.0 audio as well, that is what alternate audio tracks are for!

Thanks for the reply! I'll check that as soon as my editing session is done...

As for alternate tracks... is it documented in the manual?

OK! I've used the small utility and now I could import my AC3 in dvdit pro HD! Yeah!!

Now what I must do with the AC3? I dropped it on an audio track in the timeline... I was thinking at first that it would have used 6 tracks (one for each channels...) but it used only A1.

- Do I have to do something special to make sure the blu-ray will be created with the 5.1 surround audio mix?

- As for alternate tracks... what should I do?

- For example for the stereo mix, in FCP I use 2 audio tracks (one for left and one for right track) but when I import those in dvdit it uses only one track... Should I export left and right seperately from fcp and import each in Dvd it?

I feel like a noobie... :(

glad you are having success. 5.1 audio is in one file and one track, 2.0 audio is in one file and one track. you'll need to output to BD to see if everything is coming out right. make sure your HD transcoding setting is on AC3. if you see an audio transcode in the build process, then something is amiss.

So in short... I put the AC3 on A1, stereo mix on A2... Then I burn?

How will the listener choose if he wants to listen to the 5.1 or stereo mix? Do I have to create a menu?

Thanks again and again! This is my first blu-ray that I edit and I'm mostly used to DVD studio pro and the mac environment... so I'm having a little trouble with doing this ... <_<
