Safari browser for Windows

Yea, I saw that and wondered what it was like. I think I will take a peak. Thanks. :D I couldn't watch the demo, it must take a newer version of Quicktime then I have. :(

There's a small amount of info at DLTV if you want to watch it. Not much info though. If you try it, let me know what you think Patty. I'm still a very faithful FF guy.

Thanks Paul, I took a look, seemed pretty cool, I like that idea of dragging a link up and creating another window. I will have to give it some thought. I have FF and Opera now, don't ever use Opera, only like to have back up incase FF or ie7 are down. I rather liked the sliding links too..............I will let you know if I decide to do it.

I read this and don't know if it is factual but it is interesting

I would tend to believe the article. To me, iTunes is bad on a PC or Mac. I didn't intend on trying Safari but was simply curious. Being fast is not always the best thing.

I hear you, it did have some nice features, but after reading that article I am inclined to take a wait and see position. It was interesting, however. Maybe it will give some of the other browsers an idea.

Well, I just downloaded and installed. Not impressed with the look, feel or ability to customize. As every other experience I've had with Apple, I feel like my hands are tied - I just get frustrated. All it's good for here is testing html cross platform. Firefox beats the pants off of Safari.

I'm not surprised at all and they may see as in Vista that it's not only looks people want but function. However some things just take a while to get use to. IE is still #1 only because the majority don't even realize they have a choice or just plain afraid to install something on their pc.

Thanks for letting me know your feelings. I was hoping someone would play the guinea pig part so I wouldn't have to download it. :P

I downloaded it but haven't installed yet.Guess with this and the reviews that were linked to I think I'll just pass and not waste my time.

No, please Terry, waste your time so we don't have to. :D

Only Firefox can do this:

ff.jpg

No other browser can touch the customizations that are available. The icon toolbar has totally changed my online experience.

If I didn't need a slew of browsers installed for testing, I'd nuke them all.

Which plugin for FF is that Icon Toolbar?

Which plugin for FF is that Icon Toolbar?

Firefox extensions - Smart Bookmarks Bar in conjunction with Favicon Picker 2 - allow users to choose any icon they wish. So some of the icons you see there are not linked to the original sites. I sometimes browse for purdy new icons at this site either for a particular purpose (if a site doesn't have one or it's not to my liking) or for my icon collection (for future use).

Also using Adblock Plus, Stylish and userChrome.css, I have nuked the ads on the sites I visit regularly as well as most of them on sites I have never been to before. It is pure bliss!

Thought I would give Safari a try. One of the weirdest computer experiences I have ever had. Other than the loaded page, there was absolutely no text within the window. All the titles for the main toolbar were lines, no text. Click on it and I got a column of lines in the drop down, with an occasional icon. Weird.

The general consensus in most of the reviews on Safari is that it's simply an attempt to bring an Apple 'look and feel' over to Windows (get people hooked on it and they might consider a Mac next time)

However, given the price difference between a Mac and a PC, that will take a LOT of doing. Jobs would have been better off releasing Marklar and really giving MS a few grey hairs (but then - doesn't Bill own Mac stock?)

btw - interesting .mov file here

There is quite a discussion about this bug over at Sitepoint. You have lots of company.

Apple’s native browser Safari has been released for PC platforms today but many found it to be more of a bloat app with show render times. The rendering speed is increased with a simple modification in this location:

“C:\Program Files\Safari\Safari.resources”

NOTE: Make sure Safari is closed!

Open up Defaults.plist and add the following line:

<key>WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay</key>

<real>0.25</real>

This should make Safari Render faster

Don't knock it - it takes MS at least ten times this length of time to even ADMIT there's a problem (and as long again to actually do something about it)

Apple hadn't responded to requests for comment by the time this posted.

So what has Apple got to so with admitting or taking responsibility?
