Going backwards with an ISO

rmart0729

Question

Hello,

Just a question about going backwards from an ISO to source files. I have an ISO of a DVD I created but I got rid of the project files, audio, pictures, etc. Can I retrieve that from the ISO file at all? Starting from scratch would suck because I want the content to be exactly the same but I want to change a few minor things. So, anything I can do to achieve this? If not then from here on out I will save everything but the source video because I could always just re-import that.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to backup mini DV tapes to DVD so they can be re-imported if needed or should I just keep the tapes safe under lock & key or something?

Thanks,

Rich

You could burn the ISO to a disc and then copy the VOB files back to your computer. Edit the VOB files directly in Video Wave. If you don't want to waste a disc, use an RW. Doing small editing will be slightly difficult because you are editing one big file so you would not be able to, for example, change text but you could add text. Changing transitions can be done but it has to be with a good understanding of how transitions interact with the video or images.

I would keep the originals but you should be able to just capture or import the videos and use Creator Classic to burn them to a data disc. They won't play on a DVD player but you can get them off the DVD if you need to.

There are several programs that can extract the info from a .iso file - MagicIso, UltraISO and so on, but you can also open a .iso file with winrar and extract in the same way as you would any other archive file.

Hello,

I extracted the ISO file using Winrar and got the VOB files but Videowave did not recognize the VOB files. What can I do now? I could tart from scratch but I want to keep the original content. Any ideas on what I did wrong or what I can do???

Thanks,

Did you just try putting the disc in your DVD drive and exploring it? You should see the VOB files and you can copy those to your hard drive.

In some cases where the program doesn't see the VOB files as editable, make sure that Windows is set NOT to hide known file extensions in folder view. Rename the file from whatever.VOB to whatever.mpg. I've not heard anyone where this didn't work if the files were valid VOB files.

Hello,

Renaming the VOB files worked but as it was mentioned in an earlier post transistions can't be added, removed, or edited. I think it would actually be easier in this particular case to redo the video from scratch. However, in the future I will keep the Roxio source files in case I ever want to change anything. Thanks for your help. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,

Rich
