mpeg to mpeg4

trank1

Question

Finally got my videocard GeForce FX5200

took a .mpeg file on my HD into disk copier, then video compilation, edited the start and stop, then formated to mpeg-4, saved it to my HD, everything looked like it worked fine, 100% successful. Then when I tried to play it(MaQ00001.mpeg4), I got an "error-2010, the movie contains some invalid data" and it would not play, any ideas why?

There are a bunch of mp4 varieties out there -- might have just tried to open it with the wrong player? Or it might have had a real error, & YouTube's conversion software could work around it.

"Not sure why mpeg4 is the preferred format for "youtube""

Small file sizes... If you look you can find several decent tutorials, many of course video hosted by YouTube, that tell how to maximize your efforts.

I am getting the feeling that video is not for prime time yet, not intuitive, etc.
Intuitive is very over-used word in the software world. Intuitive for whom? There are many levels of computer expertize and video knowledge. Nothing will seem 'intuitive' if you don't have any prior knowledge. For someone that has never seen a computer, even a Mac would not be 'intuitive'.

I did a quick Google for the error code. Appears to be a common Quicktime error so most likely there is nothing wrong with the file. Use something other than QT to play the file back.

What are you trying to do? Why are you converting to mpeg4? A google search for that error seems to indicate that QuickTime has a problem playing the file. Do you have the correct QT version, the correct codecs? Have you installed the latest drivers for the video card?

First, thank you for the responses. Yes, updated all video card codes upon installation. Took the chance the problem was with my system and uploaded to "youtube" and everything seems to be working if I view it on their site. Not sure why mpeg4 is the preferred format for "youtube", something about it working better with servers I think. I will take your advice on QT version, because I do not know if I do or not, do not use it much. Thanks, again.
