You don't post your new specs but if you have onboard audio, some of the options are not available. Upgrading to a dedicated sound card would help.

Assuming you are recording from an analog stereo device . . have you tried using the "line-in" option? I'm not sure what other input connections you could have available besides line and mic?

If you still have the 2000 machine try taking the sound card out of it and installing it in the new machine. You'll probably need to get drivers for XP from the card manufacturer.See if this gets your options back.

Hi as far as I know the soundcard on both the old computer Win200Pro and the new one running XP pro are built into the motherboard!!

You can tell by looking at the back.If the place you plug your speakers into is up near your mouse port, usb ports.etc..then it's built in.If it's down near the bottom then it's gonna be an add in card.

It's also possible that they were 2 different sound mfg's and one just doesn't have the choices of the other.

Usually though if it's built in you only get Mic and Line in,though not always.

On mine if I use the built in audio that's what I get.If I use my Audigy then I get many more choices like "What You Hear" and SPDIF.

Easy Auio Capture can only use the choices it is given by the sound card.If that's all you get then I'm afraid your only choice will be to get an add-on card.

What is it you don't get anymore for a choice? Are you trying to record from the Internet?

The problem I have is I used to be able to record any audio on my old computer Win200Pro i.e. music streaming from digital radio stations DVDs playing etc but now I have loaded the same software EMC8 on my new Dell XP Pro in the Input drop down box all I get is Line in or Microphone. The same software on my old Dell win2000Pro the same box also included Wave out (soundCard), CD/DVD player, USB Phone, Mono Out as well as Line in and Microphone is this a ploy by Microsoft to limit recording of material from other sources????

Based on these choices it sounds like it wasn't built in on the old machine. But if it was then that's why you can't do it anymore. The new Mfg just isn't giving you these choices. My guess would be you were using Wave out to do your Internet recording.

If you can still use the 2000 machine turn it on,go to Device Manager,Sound and see what entry you have there and let us know.

Youre right it is up with mouse port and built in the mother board but so was my old system. So what sound card can any one recomend that will allow internet streaming and all other sound devices to be recorded. Looking at EMC9 they advertise recording off the internet with a new recording widget but I suppose unless my soud card will not allow anything else than a microphone or line in, it would be a waste of time and money making the investment of an upgrade.

Cards by Creative, the Sound Blaster line are always a good choice but there are others.I've been looking at one Bluegears, the b-Inspire that looks nice and they claim also works well in Vista (not that you're using it).

I've always had good luck with the Creative line and know for a fact they will do what you're asking because I have an Audigy2 and use it to sometimes record from the net.

If this is a new computer you might try looking at the Sound properties in the Control Panel and seeing if maybe certain recording options are just not enabled and that's why you don't see them.Probably not but it's worth a shot.

Yes I am still running both machines side by side and the sound device in hardware manager for the old computer is SoundMAX Intergrated Digital Audio and the driver Provider is Analog Devices Dated 06/05/03.

The brand new Dell Machine has The same Audio Driver SoundMax Intergrated Digital HD Audio Driver. Driver provider Analog Divices Dated 05/07/06. Just goes to prove that progress is turning back time.

Yes I have already looked at the sound properties with no luck looks like I am just going to have to invest in a new sound card for a brand new usless Dell Machine.

I looked at SoundMax's site and a picture I saw of the recording volume controls show both Cd Player and Stereo Mix.Take a look at your SoundMax mixer and make sure that those are enabled as choices and not muted. This may not help but once again it's worth a shot.

If not then your only choice is going to be getting an add-on sound card.

Good Luck.

You might go onto Dell's forum in the Sound area and ask a question about it there. There are both free and inexpensive software programs that may still be able to do what you want but again, not every onboard audio chip can do that. There might even be a driver out there that will fix your problem. Check out SoundMax's site for possible info.

Just to make sure; perhaps an image for the recording options:

OOps, that supposed to say properties rather than options.

Many thanks for all your help I went and bought a basic Creative Audigy 7.1 SE sound card and installed it and now I have record what you hear in whatever file format you want from WMA-Mp3 and many other features for for sound I didnt know existed. I can now record streaming radio straight off the net at whatever quality or format required. I went on the Dell site and their chat room asking questions about my intergrated sound & searched their tech support also the intergrated sound manufacturers site all to no avail. It just seemed to me that progress with a new all singing bells & whistles Dell machine meant less in the sound department. Doesnt say much for intergrated sound on the mother board.

By the way does any one else have trouble Logging onto this Roxio site I seem to have trouble getting it to even bring up the log in page to enter my details?

Glad you finally got it working.Creative has always been a good choice for me.You can usually do a lot of things with the options you get with it."What you Hear" is a choice I use a lot.

As far as getting to the site there are problems from time to time but none that I know of right now. What you might try is to clear your cookies in your browser, get to the log on page and then bookmark it.
