Roxio Upgrade Manager Problem

webart

Question

 Just made the upgrade from Dell preinstalled Roxio Creator DE to Easy Media Roxio Creator 9 on a Vista System. Well, it took me 8 hours to get it installed (back and forth etc.). Installation program wanted Upgraded Manager 6 installed and asked if I wanted v.3 uninstalled, however it wasn't able to do so.

The software is still labelled Roxio Creator DE and apart from the newly upgraded installed items is still the option to upgrade, which is strange since I just did. In Windows Program and Features (listing installed programs) Updated Manager 3 is still listed, despite I did previouly delete it.

So How Can I Change That? Without new hours of fideling! Does anybody have a clue?

Just did another so called clean install. The problem with the description found here in this forum and Clean Installation teq is that is for XP not Vista. A detailed explanation is much needed, how can a professional software company leave us like that and how can they live with that? They can't expect all users to be nurds (loosing ground and customers here). I'm frustrated!

 Help, help, help, help!!! Yes it did not worked for me!

Go back to the KB article you linked to and scroll to the bottom. There you will find a link for the Clean Installation instructions for EMC 9 and Vista.

Just in the possibility that you have a faulty CD, can you copy the files to a temp folder anywhere on the computer and run setup.exe from there?

I bought and downloaded emc9 online from Roxio, and hince are installing from the harddrive. There are two files: 1Z22TZX0R03_EMCSuitev9.1efigsd.exe and 2006EZS0R03_ContentCDv9.1.exe. I asked Roxio via email what is the difference, but they never responded! I start installation with the ...EMCSuite.. (Core program) as I thing the ...ContentCD... is some extra features. It takes "forever" for the installation program to start...?

 I don't know what to do, just about to give up?

It takes "forever" for the installation program to start...? The installation starts attemps to install Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite, followeb by the Update Manager, then it starts a rollback and therefore DO NOT INSTALLL anything except XingTone, and in Program Files, only:

Roxio/Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite/InstallShield/Driver/1050/Intel 32/

Here are the only files installed to be found (10 items)

_ISRES1033.dll 22-10-2004

ID 17-06-2003

IDriver.exe 22-10-2004

IDriver2.exe 22-10-2004

IDriverT.exe 22-10-2004

iGdiCnv.dll 22-10-2004

IScrCnv.dll 22-10-2004

ISRT.dll 22-10-2004

IUserCnv.dll 22-10-2004

objpscnv.dll 22-10-2004

Empty folder in Program Files/Roxio/Update Manager

No files installed in Program Files/CommonFiles nor ProgramData

and no files installed in the Users Subfolders

No files are recognable by Windows Install CleanUp

Only thing else to found: Control Panel/ Programs and Features¨is XingTone

All this were made while Firewall and Virus programs etc. were disconnected. This is frustration to say the least!!!

SO IT SEEMS TO BE UPDATE MANAGER, AGAIN?

PLEASE, PLEASE DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE?

OK - try this

open the suite file with winrar or winzip (right click and 'open with'). If it can't extract, you have a corrupted download and will need to re-download

Extract the files to a temp forlder and, as I said before, run setup.exe from there

Content is extra menus, transitions and so on and is installed after suite

Well, I was able to extract, but I'm having the same problem again.

Downloaded again, same thing?

The fact that a rollback function is invoked makes me think that the clean uninstall was not successful. Make sure you follow the clean uninstall directions to the letter. Its very important that you use the Microsoft Installer Clean up utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 to assist with removing the older products completely.

Thanks to all who did reponse so far, it is much needed.

I did excatly followed the acticle descriping a clean install for Vista users, and did used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package, msconfig, regedit etc. There are other program under the service tab [Click the Services tab.

Click the Manufacturer title bar and scroll down to Sonic Solutions and uncheck all Sonic applications] and I did try to remove other than Roxio and Sonic entries too. However, I have been doing computers for 18 years there are areas that I'm not comfortable with. One such is regedit. I deleted as described in the arcticle: Roxio and Sonic entries only in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. I did do a search and there are other Roxio-Sonic entries as well, infact quiet a lot (This could take forever). I find it very hard to beleave that I have to do this, thinking of others with less experience than me; but I really want the software to work after all this time and money.

I guess the main question is, should other entries in regedit and MS Installer Clean Up other than mentioned in the article be removed.

So any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The problem is that the existing OEM version is clashing with the full suite - normally on a clean install, there are no Roxio/Sonic entries, but what you have has been left over from the original OEM install plus the failed suite install.

There should be some free apps around that will make it simpler for you to remove it. Try Regcleaner from here

Hours later! RegCleaner was of no help to me. Manually searched for all entries in RegEdit of Roxio and Sonic and deleted those. Starting the installation and SAME DISAPOINTING RESULT - ROLL BACK.

Having cleaned RegEdit, I forgot to restart my computer before reinstalling Easy Media Creator 9, don't know if that matters.

This is all beyond my imagination! Anybody, Any suggestions???

Disable your popup blocker, virus detector, and internet security software, BEFORE you try installing.

Disable your popup blocker, virus detector, and internet security software, BEFORE you try installing.

Well, I did that or attempted to; however yesterday I did notice that after having unchecked all McAfee entries in MSCONFIG under the service tab, I seem to be unable to uncheck McAfee Real Scanner; that is it reappears after the required restart. McAfee do not as others provide an easy to reach complete shutdown possibility, or I can figure it out. I have to disable the different functions and then use MSCONFIG in order to make it disappear in the quick launch area???

This is the sixth day of time cunsuming fustration! Help, Help.

The problem with the Dell OEM version is it has to be completely removed before installing the full version.

If you follow the instructions elsewhere on this forum anout a 'clean install' that should cure the problem

Yes, I did read that and also tried it, even with Windows Install Cleanup as recommened. However it didn't seemed to work or I couldn't get it to work. So I thought since it was an upgarde, that it need some of the original files in order to do so, and then reinstalled the Dell Oem package. Do I really have to do it again.

It's basically a total strip out of the original followed by a fresh install is all. It's to get rid of any leftover bits that could cause problems
