3 menus?

rapunzel

Question

I recently upgraded to a new computer- Vista- & with it came a shiny new copy of Roxio's Media Creator 9. Granted, it's the version that came WITH the computer, but still I thought "Version 9!" this must be an improvement over my old MyDVD verson 6 right? WRONG! I went to transfer some TIVO files & had the bold option of 3, tremendously unattractive & seemingly uncustomizable menu options! Of course I was not clever enough however many years ago to write down my old registration key to version 6.1 & I'd rather not purchase it again. I see that I can buy other menus for version 9 but that seems like a huge crock at $30 per pop when they won't even let me see them. I can't believe I can't even get a plain color working.

Am I just missing something or is this a reason to perhaps upgrade to the deluxe suite? Or is the suite plagued with the same 3 hideous menus. I really can't believe I'm stuck with this.

I should say I only use Roxio for editing my Tivo videos (hubby is in the Navy so I often edit his shows- & shows for others to send over seas) & it's easier to differentiate the shows with a variety of menus & fonts. For home video editing I use much different software. Nor do I use Roxio for CD burning, one of the reasons I liked MyDVD- it was cheap & easy & worked flawlessly with my TIVO to go for years.

Thanks in advance for your help & advice!

I believe the full version comes with only 3 menus but it also comes with a content disc that not only adds many more menus but adds to the cd label art as well as Photosuite. You can make your own menus if you want and a bit of looking around the forum will find you want you want. I've never been a big fan for the menus myself.

You didn't say what the new computer manufacturer was, but if the EMC 9 came with it then you probably have some lesser options than the retail one from Roxio. I recently had a problem with MyDVD in EMC 9 and when I went to change the Menu style, I only had three showing that I could use. Usually there are three dozen or more. What I found out was that the "Content CD" that came with the EMC 9 had not installed properly. Once I did a re-install of the Content CD, I had some 42 menu styles to work with.

If the new computer is a Dell you might want to contact Roxio and ask for their tech support, as I think Roxio is doing some of the tech support for the EMC 9 that comes on Dell computers. If I am wrong on that, I'm sure one of the other members will correct me.

It's just as well also that you couldn't find your MyDVD 6.x key and tried to install it, as that wouldn't work on your new system anyway. The only Roxio/Sonic products that are compatible with Vista are the version 9 ones. If you do decide to look at getting one of them, my recommendation would be the EMC 9 Deluxe suite.

thanks! It is a Dell & I'm sure there's a Roxio disk that came with... I'll look through my pile & do a reinstall & see what happens. It never occurred to me that was the issue. Thanks for the heads up on that! I'll let you know what happens but 42 menus sounds much more like it!

If it's just one diosc that came with your Dell, it's certain it won't have the extra menus and content - the Roxio version comes on two discs - one program files and the second the extra content (including the menus)

Well now I'm even more hosed- I reinstalled & now it's telling me that videowave is unable to load the configuration file. "please reinstall video wave" I've now uninstalled & reinstalled twice to no avail. I'm in worse shape than before. Just wondrous. And of course there does not seem to be a way to insall this magic video wave by itself... This is why I am not a fan of Roxio goods.

update: Well a right click & "run as administrator" (which is stupid because I'm already the administrator on this computer but whatever!) & it seemed to bypass the "Video Wave" issue. Now I just have to hope it burns properly- I'll figure that out later.

But you all seem to recommend the upgrade to the full version eh? I think I'll just get the MyDVD though- I don't need the whole suite, do I? Won't just the MyDVD still burn TIVO programs?
