Vista Backup and EMC 8 conflict

linda_va

Question

I am running Vista Ultimate and want to use Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite as my burning software.

Vista has an awesome backup to DVD imaging program built into it.

Here is the problem. Without Roxio installed, the backup works perfectly. When Roxio is installed, then when I go to backup to DVD, I get this error statement:

"This media is NOT UDF" <_<

I get cranky when things like that happen.

At present I am not sure how to proceed. I actually believe the conflict comes with "Drag to Disc", but will Roxio let me install without the Drag to Disc with a custom install?

Is there a work around or something to be able to install the full features of EMC and still use the Vista backup.

I have tried to take the Drag to Disk out of the Startup and also just turn it off, then Vista get cranky  Neither of these solve the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem solved. :D The "Drag to Disc" was the problem. I uninstalled EMC 8 and did a custom install omitting the "Drag to Disc" feature and now Vista backs up perfectly.

"Drag to Disc" must be a large portion of EMC 8 because the install without it, takes about 1/3 the time. There are probably features I could omit. About all I use is Creator Classic and Disc Copy.

Thanks for the response

For anyone interested, EMC8 does work great in Vista except for the "Drag to Disc" and "Photosuite". Those two are definitely a pain in Vista.

All you can do is to try to modify the v8 install or reinstall it and see if the custom will let you not install drag to disc. A lot depends on what v 8 product you actually have.

Also keep in mind, none of the v8 line of products is supported ore compatible with Vista. If you are getting it to work (which is sounds like it might be for the most part), I'm sure there are others here who would be interested in how you got it to.
