Error message - "CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT"

chityc

Question

Dear All,

I am new to Toast 8 (just upgraded from Toast 7). Previously, I was using Toast 7 and I have no problem burning CD more than 700MB, if the CD says 780MB. I burned DVD with Toast 7 and there isn't any problem as well.

Last night, I tried to burn/back-up 699MB files into CD and I got an error message that says:

Sense Key: ILLEGAL REQUEST

Sense Code: 0x30, 0x05

CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT

The day before, I tried to burn another CD and it was alright until 80% completion, an error message pop up. The error message was - CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM

Can anyone tell me, what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Well its a media related issue for sure. The drive is just having problems with that disc. Try another disc, and try another brand of disc. Thats about the only 2 things you can do.

Hi John,

Thanks for your suggestion. Some how, I managed to solve it. I was using 16x for the writing speed to burn my CD and had that error message.

Then, I tried using 'Best' writing speed and it burn well. I also tried the same (using 'Best') on DVD and it worked.

Very bizarre. The earlier error message said - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT. Why can't it display more accurate error message e.g. - INCOMPATIBLE WRITING SPEED or something? Then the user would know the problem immediately?

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion, John.
