EMC 9 Install COntinues to Kill my Optical Drive

Cazenave26

Question

I finally came to install this EMC 9 Suite since I saw the DLA patch. The previous installs would cause my LITE-ON drive to stop functioning even after removing drag to disc. I uninstalled and cleaned the registry and magically the drive functions again. There is no doubt that "EMC9 Virus" is the cause.

Well, I finally submitted a not very pleasant ticket to tech support, but I figured I would see if anyone has had a similar problem.

NOTE: Before anyone suggests reinstalling Vista, FORGET IT, everything else on the computer functions fine even on my 64 bit Vista. The only problem I have is with this software suite. If it's so fragile that it requires a reinstall of the OS to "possibly" install correctly then it's crap software.

Here are the details:

ASUS Crossfire Motherboard (Nvidia Chipset) with AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor 5400

OS: Windows 64Bit Vista Home Premium (installed fresh, not an upgrade from XP)

2MB of DDR2 667 RAM

500GB Maxtor SATA II HD

Nvidia GEFORCE 8800 GTS Video Card 640 MB

LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H ATA Optical Media Read Writer <--- Non-functional with EMC9 installed

The windows properties box for the drive indicates that the driver won't load and it's using the Windows driver 6.0.6000.16386

To me that says that there is a Windows problem and not a Roxio one. Did you update the drive firmware and also any hardware drivers from the makers' and not from MS?

Vista 64 bit seems to be having a lot of problems with drivers and to blame an app for that is stretching things a bit

There is a patch due for Vista but I still think you have a Windows problem. The s/w doesn't use the Windows driver - it's only connection to the drive is to read the firmware (for media information) which is why I asked if you had updated the drive firmware

Yes the firmware is up to date (LL06 version). My understanding was that the device does use the standard windows driver and the firmware ensures compatibility of the device with the driver.
