ubiediting

Question

Hallo,

I thank any member who can suggest how to deal with a VOB file, VTS_01_4.VOB the extenscion changed to .MPG,taken from a homemade DVD, of about 6 mins duration, plays for 17 seconds ONLY in VW1.1.189, the same in Windows Movie Maker although in WMM when I fiddle with the Preview time bar it JOGs a little further.

Power DVD plays the file correctly its full length.

I am trying to insert this flie into a new VW production

Thank You, ubiediting

Does your vob look like the one changed below, look close?

What version of Power DVD plays the file and in Power DVD are you selecting open media files to play?

Hallo to you, CD

Thanks for your reply and I would like you to know that my changed vob looks like your first one with the little play button inside the color circle (excuse a laborious description).

Power DVDXP is the only version reference I can find in the help page and the programe is about 4 years old and I do not select open media files, but _PLAY WITH_ on the right clicker.

I doubt it makes a difference but the duration is 14 mins, not 6

Did you try to 'Capture' the file from the DVD?

Usually we suggest renaming only when the capture process won't work.

Hallo ml,

Thanks for your reply , I tried to capture in 7.1.1.189 as I tried WMM, and the page showed a thumbnail that opened in VW but like WMM it was only about 17sec whilst the file is about 14mins, also tried Disc Copier withou success, and although I did not want to do this, I still have the orignal camcorder Hi8 tape and can recapture and edit again.

Those symptoms often indicate a movie on –RW or one recorded in VR mode and not Finalized.

VR recording mode will skip used sections of the media similar to Fragmenting on magnetic media. Rename will not understand the fragments and Capture usually suffers the same fate.

Try putting the disc back into the device it was recorded on and see if you can Finalize it.

Hallo james_hardin, I am sorry to have taken so long to reply but your advice for which I thank you, did not work for me, but I luckly had the Vidio 8 tape still and finished up recapturing and editing
