No video frames, no audio

kenw

Question

I have transferred a mpeg file to video wave for editing but cannot get each individual frame on the preview line. All I get is the very first frame.

How can I display all the frames so that I can do a proper edit?

I have transferred a mpeg file to video wave for editing but cannot get each individual frame on the preview line. All I get is the very first frame and then a long blue bar. I've tried expanding the first frame but come up with a goose egg.

I also have no audio at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you read my post? As I said you will only see the first frame of a video clip on the timeline.

How did you capture the video? Did you capture via the USB connection? If yes then that might be your audio problem. Capturing via the Firewire connection to avi format seems to give the best results for most users. The USB connection is mainly used for capturing the still pictures from digital cameras or for using the camcorder as a webcam.

I did read your post and thank you for the help.

I captured the video via firewire. I don't believe the video went avi and the reason I say that is because I just hooked up the camera to the computer and clicked away to download. I have to go back to the drawing boards to figure out how to go avi.

I got the preview window but, unless I misunderstand, one can only see a limited area of the video and then take only immediate actions to edit on that specific area. In Adobe Premier Elements one can see the entire stretch of frames which I find immensely helpful.

I'll go back to the drawing board to check out the avi thing.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

I have downloaded video from an HV-20 into the computer and had it converted to MPEG.

When I load it into video wave I only get a single frame (the first as it it were a photo) and absolutely no audio from the tape.

What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem with the audio. I couldn't get it to play with any of the previews in Videowave, but when I burned it to disk and played the dvd it was there.

I assume that by "preview line" you actually mean the timeline.

You cannot display each individual frame in the timeline, you will always only see the first frame of a video clip. The preview window on the other hand does show each frame as you single step through each frame.
