tsantee
To clear up my first message I can burn 2 hr movies that I copy off a dvd, so they must be compressed somehow but how can I get Toast to compress a 2 hr movie from Eye tv to fit on a standard dvd Does the EyeTV video need to be compressed? If you have an EyeTV 200 or 250 the default setting is the 2-hour rate that fits a single-layer disc without additional compression. But if it is too large then choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu instead of clicking the burn button. When that is done select the resulting .toast file using the Image File setting in the Copy window. You'll see that the Fit-to-DVD option is available there. Atlantic
Have you tried saving the disc as a disc image and then burning the disc image? I find that Toast sometimes has difficulties even burning the disc image, but at least that way I can start again without any changes and it normally works the next time. Once the disc image is saved, I have never had any problem burning the disc image through Toast onto a DVD. It also lets me check the disc image by mounting it and using the Mac's DVD player to ensure I have the right soundtracks (I have burned discs with commentary tracks before since Toast doesn't seem to know which one it is picking up) before burning the actual disc. It has certainly saved me a lot of coasters by using this method.
DOlz
This is an ongoing problem which I was unaware of until I went to view an EyeTV recording and found instead an empty disk. Too bad I wasted the time "burning" this one and two dozen others only to have the disk eject without writing a thing or giving a message to that effect. And of course after "burning" I deleted the original EYETV file without popping the DVD into a player to check it. The behavior is not consistent, and I just tried the suggestion above and got a "cannot complete error" due to Mac OS -039(I think). Unacceptable! I think version 7 was better, but I'm POed, and add my name to the legion of other users voicing frustration over the rebate hassels. Didn't get mine, either, and who should know the existing users BUT Roxio. You require all that info BEFORE the download. Give us a break and do AWAY with the rebate and price it straight out. If somebody else begins to offer disk burning software that's competitive, you're going to lose a lot of users. The exact message is "Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error. Result Code = -39" I'm getting it on both my internal and external drive. Does anyone know what this means?

You should add to that thread because this one was a different issue. It is important to make the distinction of which EyeTV unit you are using and the specs of the file that is giving you this problem. For example, I'm not having any trouble with MPEGs encoded by my EyeTV 250 from analog sources but some have that problem with HD video captured with an EyeTV Hybrid. In that case the MPEG encoding was done somewhere before the signal was transmitted and it could be a problem with the MPEG file's encoding. Using MPEG Streamclip to fix timecode breaks may repair the MPEG file so Toast can re-encode it to standard definition MPEG 2.
tsantee
This only applies to analog recordings: The place to select the encoding rate is in the Devlices panel of EyeTV Preferences. It is the button labeled Quality. Do what I suggested with your 5.1 gig movie. Choose Save as Disc Image, choose the disc image with the Image File setting in the Copy window and click the burn button. Toast compresses the video to fit a single layer disc when possible (153 minutes should be okay). If that doesn't work let me know the resolution (i.e. 720x480) of the video captured by your EyeTV.
