Intro Movie

zalago

Question

To explain this properly I need to describe a bit more than is usual. I've about completed a photo project in VideoWave which is a surprise present for my Son and his wife on their Wedding Anniversary. The project is made up of two seperate VideoWave files. Part one is about them before they got married, and is supposed to kid them into thinking that that is all there is on the DVD, but it ends with a 10 second blank screen with up-beat music to persuade them to let it run, then a final screen that gets their proper attention before the 2nd part starts. The second part is their wedding album, which I 'borrowed' and scanned in before returning it. (of course I've got good background music and good movement in the images with 'pan & zoom' so it is loads better than the photo album) I've put them into MyDVD with the 1st part as the Intro Movie and the Wedding Album part as the main movie with the Wedding menu to start it off. It works fine when I trial burned it except that the Intro Movie kicks off straight away. My question is - can I have a menu to start the Intro Movie, or have I gone about this wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Merv, you are right. I've changed the menu background on Menu 1 and that leaves the Wedding menu unchanged. That's great. I owe you an ice cold beer ! Let me have a delivery address. Thanks once again.

Richard

I've never been one to turn down a beer :D Just glad it worked for you!!

When a movie is added to the Intro, it plays automatically after inserting the disc without a menu. It is like the FBI warning you see when playing a commercial DVD. No menu can be applied for the Intro.

What I think you want is two separate menus; one with what you call the Intro and then a second with the main movie. If that is correct, give the following a whirl (unfortunately I think you will have to start over with a new MyDVD project):

1. Open MyDVD and add the "Intro" movie. Change text, menu background, menu audio,, etc. as desired. For these direction, rename this menu "Menu 1"

2. Click DVD Menu>Add Submenu. A second menu entitled My Menu will be created. Again, for these direction, rename this menu "Menu 2" Add the main movie to this menu, change menu background, menu audio, text, etc.

3. On Menu 2, point to and right click on the main movie button, and click Go to Linked Movie/Menu. Select the GO TO button, drop down the menu and select Menu 1 as the After Playing option.

4. Return to Menu 1, point to and right click on the Intro movie button, click Go to Linked Movie/Menu, select the GO TO button. drop down the menu and select Menu 2 as the After Playing Option

5. On Menu 1, you will have a button to go to menu 2 in addition to the Intro button. If you do not want this button, point to it, right click, and select Cut. DO NOT select delete.

What you should end up with is project the goes to menu 1 with only one button (the Intro movie) when inserted into a DVD player. After the intro has finished, it will go to menu 2 with the main movie button and one (possibly two) additional buttons to navigate back to menu 1.

I know that sounds complicated, but give it a try step by step and I think it will work for you. If not, post back with the problems you had.

Just to clarify (in case Merv's instructions are not immediately clear). In step 1, where he says add the 'intro' movie': do not use add intro movie, but just the add new movie option, so it comes under the My menu list bottom left pane.

Merv,

No offence intended and, I hope none taken, I just thought the phrase 'add the 'Intro' movie' was ambiguous. :-)

Not offended at all. Thanks for the clarification. After rereading what I wrote, I should have added some detail on how to add that movie.

Thanks Jean and Merv. You know - and you've probably realised this - I've never looked at those drop down menus. But, with your help I think I've got it, except that when I change the menu style for Menu 2 in STEP 2, the style changes on Menu 1 as well. And, just in case it matters - the drop down 'Go To' menu in STEP 3 and 4 shows 3 options - 'Return to last movie', 'Play next movie in project' and an expanding 'Go to' list, but no 'After Playing' - Nevertheless that bit should be logical !!? so shouldn't be problem !!?

If you use Change Menu Style it will change all menus in the project. I think you can change individual menu bacckgrounds by using Change Menu Background and then select any picture or short video.

The After Playing reference was to the entire window, not an individual selection, as indicated at the very top left. Those three selections you saw are all options than can be set for the action to take after the title finishes playing.
