capturing devices compatibilty with vista

asentjr

Question

I have a dell notebook with vista. Most dells use sigmetal sound cards. After reading all the posts in the forum on no sound when trying to capture audio, I wondering if it's a sound card or hardware issue as to why devices like the DVC 90 capture device don't work. Even with the update patch same problem. I've studied different capturing devices and it seems that most of them are only compatible with systems XP or earlier. So as long as there is no fix to the sound card or perhaps video devices your programs are utterly useless when it comes to vista operating systems and perhaps the sigmetal. Maybe they need to come with a patch to fix this problem with audio. One last thing I have a problem with on the DVC 90 is that it will capture only 3 secs and stop and come up unkown error unable to capture. So at this point I took every capture device I own and sold them on Ebay to get rid of this frustration and hopefully someday there'll be a fix before I retire.

I was thinking, I have vista home basic installed. Will video capturing devices work on this or would I have to update system to premium? That was my other thought. Perhaps there are drivers programs made for video on premium

From what it says on the Pinnacle website, 32 bit drivers are available for Vista and they don't specify which version so, the assumption would be that they will work in all versions except 64 bit

What was it Terry that you did that got the DVC 90 to working ?? I'm sure there are some others out there that would like to try what you did. When you capture with the unit in EMC, what is the video file type that you get ?

To tell the truth Frank I think it was just trial and error, that plus v9.1.

I never could get it working with v9.0.At this point I'm not even sure if I'm using the driver from Pinnacle or the one that's posted here for Vista.

I can tell you the Video driver portion is 1.1.406.0 and the Audio is 1.2.5.0.I shared the driver from Pinnacle with Neil and I don't know if he ever got it working or not.Last I knew he didn't.

As far as the file type I can get either avi,3 mpeg-2 choices or an mpeg-1 (VCD).

Here's a link to some drivers from Pinnacle that may work

I can see from the list of DVC units in that link, that several are listed including the DVC 90 device, but not the 150. I wonder why ?? I am very suprised that you can capture avi video using that device. And I guess that driver download is a "beta" file.

Patty had asked me if she could capture an avi video using the DVC 150 and I suggested that I didn't think so but she could give it a try.

I have never owned the DVC 90 device but I did have a Dazzle DVC 150 that worked well in XP for capturing, but I just very recently installed (dual boot) Vista Home Premium, so I haven't tried to capture with it. I'm not sure but you might try checking on the Dazzle website to see if that have an updated driver for the DVC 90 that works with Vista. The DVC 90 and 150 have been outdated for a while now so they mighht not have one. But it's worth a try.

The basic problem is that Microsoft changed the way that sound is handled in Vista. It went from using Direct Sound to using Open GL.Most sound cards did all their fancy stuff using Direct Sound. So basic sound is no problem but the apps that let you do all the cool stuff like capturing have a problem.

I could not get the sound to work with my DVC90 at first with V9.0.I now have V9.1 and with that combined with some drivers from Pinnalce I finally got it to work.

That's the reason it bombs after a few seconds I think. It captures the Video but no Audio and just freaks out.

Another thing you'll probably have trouble with is using Easy Audio Capture to capture streaming audio from the net.If you're lucky you may get an input from your audio card that allows it,but there's a good chance you may not.Once again it's all a funtion of your audio card and the apps and inputs that actually work in Vista.

You might try this and see if it will get the DVC90 to work

There are 2 different files.PCLEUSB2.exe and PCLEUSB.exe.I think the one without the 2 is for the 150.

Check this thread with the post by Neil (Highlander)

Frank - regarding the 150, this is from the pinnacle website

"For the Dazzle DVC 80, DVC 150 and Fusion, these drivers are specifically designed work with Pinnacle's Studio and Studio QuickStart software and they are not intended to work with other video editing applications and have not been tested with other applications.

Note 2: For the DVC 150, it is also required that you have version 8.9 or better of Studio 8 or Studio QuickStart 8.

I Have had no problems at all using the DVC 150 when in XP Daithi. It has worked for me perfect with capture from VCR's & TV. But I never did try capturing anything using the EMC programs. I always used the program that came with the unit from Dazzle. I did have to update the program and driver however.

I haven't tried using the unit with Vista so can't say anything about that. And I wasn't one of the ones that received the DVC 90 so can't say anything abouit that unit either. There has been several problem posts regarding the use of the DVC 90 unit and there doesn't seem to be anyone that can get it to work perfect with both audio and video. To bad too, as many users would love to have a good capture unit that works perfect in EMC. Maybe some day, huh ?
