Computer freezes on everything

jjp735i

Question

My system is a Dell ,AMD x2. 2gb DDR2 SDRAM 2x GB DIM M. 7300 Gforce Graphics cards upgrade and all kinds of other stuff I had installed from dell to make it fast. I run Adobe Illustrator, Coral Draw, and all kind of other graphics software with no problem. Games are lighten fast, Homeworld, Flight Sims. I never have a problem. But this EMC 9 just doesn't like to run.

When I run any of the programs in EMC 9 the whole computer freezes up. Weather importing movie clips, editing clips, sending a project to burn. You name it, it happens. Any suggestion were to start.

I'm running XP. I got videowave to work. Even produce a small movie. I still think there is something slowing things down, but it didn't crash. Going to try the clean install next. The computer did come with a few roxio programs , MY DVDLE.

Thanks, jjp

What OS are you using? Did your Dell come with a Roxio version pre-installed? If so, you might try the clean install method. If it's Vista, many have had problems running 9.0 in Vista and 9.1 was expected out by now so hopefully an update will be available soon.

EMC9 is so CPU and graphics intensive on video rendering you just wouldn't believe it. However, what has helped some people is the following

1: download, install and run Lavasoft AdAware SE and/or Spybot S&D (I use both of those). They're free for personal use and they really scour the system for malware which may be running.

2: Shut down any background apps that may be running (instant messengers and so on)

If that doesn't work, come back and let us know what's happening
