PS3 firmware 1.5 question?

I live in Cairo/Egypt and went to the local sony store in Cairo with my BDR and BDRE projects i made with DVDit Pro HD the BDR was done before I install the patch while the BDRE was done with patch and plays flawlessly on my computer... the firmware of the PS3 sold here in Cairo is 1.5... when I try to play the discs it gives me a message that the discs are invalid.... now the salesman told me that if it needed a firmware update it would say so and the fact that it showed invalid disc means it won't work even with a firmware update... Is that true? have anyone tried his/her discs on firmware 1.5? what message does it show?

It's only when the ps3 is connected to the internet that it will prompt you to update the firmware.

 

Still the basic rules apply. You must have minimum firmware 1.6 plus the DVDit patch.
