Videos don't fit

Gabe0115z

Question

Hey I have AVI's and Mpeg2 format videos that I use to copy onto DVDs so I can watch on my DVD player.

This works pretty good except for the fact that parts of the picture get cut off. Why does this happen? Apparently the videos are not withing the TV safe zone. Why? How Do I fix this? (Roxio Easy Media 8)

Adding a color panel and putting the video as an overlay is a GREAT idea to get around the TV safe zone. However, is there any way to have more than one clip on the overlay? I have a couple of movies (recorded from TV to a DVD recorder) that are recorded on the DVD as two separate files. When I copy them to the hard drive and rename them as .mpg, I can work with them but they are still tow "clips". Also, is there any way to use pan and zoom on a clip in the overlay? If so, this will really work great.

Many thanks for any ideas.

Go back to Storyline, add a 2nd color panel, go back to Timeline, and overlay the video, just like you did the first one. The videos will play back to back in your production.

I don't think there is any way to use pan & zoom directly on clips on the overlay track. The workaround would be to first use pan & zoom on the clip and output to a video file. THen add that clip as the overlay

I understand how to do this, but how do I add a video in as an overlay

Your question is a little ambiguous so here are two responses.

Output to file. After you have done your pan and zoom, output that file to mpg2 for DVD best quality. Use the film reel to select the output and encode the file. When it has finished, do the following.

Add overlay: Go to timeline in VideoWave, add the color panel and make it the same length as the video. Go to add image/video and select the video you want to add. After you select it, you will get a pop up window asking where to add - select overlay. Click on the target icon (TV safe zone) and adjust the display size of the video to fit inside the zone.

Perhaps a review of the manual would be in order.

This is normal behaviour when watching videos on a TV, up to 15% of the video is outside the viewing area. Do a google search on "overscan" if you want more infro on this subject.

To view the full image on the TV you have to "shrink" the image to fit inside the safe zone. You can do this by inserting a blank panel and then dropping your video on the overlay track. You then use the Overlay Editor to resize the video to fit inside the TV safe zone

There is a lot of good info here. Thanks for all the ideas.

Hey, thanks for the info, however I made a mistake I have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 not 8. I still need a bit of help. I am a first-timer on using overlays. Even though I've used this program for quite a while.

It works the same way in Version 7.
