Roxio Easy Media Creator C++ runtime error

Gary H

Question

My Roxio program will load onto the computer but when I click on the "copy DVD" button and proceed to choose which file in the advanced tab I want to write to a DVD and proceed, I am gettting a C++ Runtime Error which says, "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information."

i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Any Help?

The "fix" has already been stated: choose whether you want EMC 7 or IE 7, and get rid of the other one.

This program is several years old, and won't be getting any updates.

IE 7 and WinPlayer 11 are from Vista, and make changes deep inside the WinXP Operating System to bring it in line with Vista.

So if you want a Vista-compatible burning program, you will have to get one. EMC 9 is one of your options.

Otherwise, rollback to IE 6 and WinPlayer 10.

The fix does not work for all. I did exactly that, went back to IE6 and WMP10. Clean installed EMC7.

Well, the error messages are a bit different but no EMC programs will work.

Homepageapp.exe still hangs when tried.

Thanks

Well, that didn't last long. I wrote 1 DVD yesterday and now it won't work today again. I did have auto updates allowed and Media Player 11 downloaded and installed last night. I deleted it again. Went and tried the fix that was previously suggested with renaming the Media Manager folder. There was still the folder Media Manager.old and a new one titled Media Manager. So, I tried naming the new one Media Manager.old1, but that did not work. I an having the same problems as before.

By the way, auto updates are history.

Since you mentioned that Media Player 11 also caused problems, I got rid of that too. The repair installation did not work, but the removal of MP11 and the renaming the folder appears to have worked. I now can get both of my Roxio programs to work.

Thank you!

I have build 7.1.0.183 ENU. I have searched for updates, but show none are available.

I am using XP media center with all updates with IE 7.

The only thing different I have done lately is to uninstall AVG and installed a different firewall/anti spyware program. (Yahoo)

Well, IE 7 doesn't make a difference to me. I deleted it, but still cannot get my Roxio programs to work. This sounded kind of fishy to me as I've been running IE 7 for quite a long time and my EMC program has never had an issue with it previously.

Hello,

I have the same runtime error on Roxio Easy Media Creator 7\HomePage\HomePageApp.exe.

I do have IE7. Media Player however is on an old version and rarely used. ALL other applications are working fine. Roxio is the only one encountering this problem.

Is there a fix problem from Roxio?? Please advise.

Thanks,

Su

You will probably need to do a repair installation of EMC. IE7 definitely hit it - whether or not it worked for a while after that isn't the point.

Both IE7 and WMP11 DO wreck applications (and not just Roxio ones)

Both of them are Vista programs backported to XP

Both of them make fundamental changes to the OS kernel causing problems

After trying the Repair option, if it's still happening, you could try the following, it may help (it won't hurt).

Ok, maybe the Media Manager db is corrupt.

Try the following and see if it helps.

Rename your Media Manager folder:

Media Manager is a hidden file. Go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options, click on View, scroll down to Hidden Files and folders, and click in the circle to the left of Show hidden files and folders. Click on Apply, then Ok.

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications.

b. Open My Computer.

c. Double click on the C: drive and browse to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio, where USERNAME is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the MediaManager folder and choose rename.

e. Name the folder MediaManager.old
