Wide screen DVD

rookie8155

Question

Hello all,

Last week I bought new camcorder which makes wide screen movies. I shot few movies and then tried to make dvd using my Roxio 9. I selected my Project as wide screen but when I add my wide screen movie in it, I see black strips on left and right side not on top and bottom. After rendering it, when I play it on my PC in Windows Media Player or any other software, it plays as a standard format movie only. I will appreciate your help.

If I play original video clip in Windows Media Player, it plays fine as wide screen but when I open it Videowave, I can see black strips on left and right. That menas Videowave is treating my video as standard format even though I have opned Videowave project as wide screen. My files are mpeg 2 format. Camera saves these files with extension MOD. This camera came with Cyberlink Power Producer software which is kind of basic software and does not allow any video editing capability.

Hopefully, someone who knows about the mod files will drop in and offer a solution. Once you brought in those clips, did you go back and make sure that the 16:9 setting didn't change back to 4:3?

Ok, I tried everything without any success. First, I tried to import vob files in to videowave but again it lost wide screen format. Then I tried all the softwares recommended by jeanrosenfeld & gi7omy, again it loses the format. So now I think I have two options, 1. return this jvc camcorder and get someother brand. 2. Buy cyberling Powerdirector.

Thanks all of you for providing me your help.

I am glad that you found the solution! High fives to you, and I hope that all of your productions turn out well.

If you have questions on using the programs in Roxio, drop back in and ask.

Bruce,

Thanks for your help. Sure, if I have any questions about Roxio, I will post it back here and seek your expert advice.

Garry, You are very welcome. You can try clips from JVC HDD camera, we will wait for your opinion.

Lots of people on the net advise to rename MOD file to MPEG, which I did even before reading anything. But I lost wide screen format once files were renamed.

Bruce,

I found the solution. JVC camera comes with Cyberlink suite which is a very basic software suite. I found out Powerdirector 5 NE which allows me to render mpeg 2 file with wide screen format intact. Once I render these files then I can use Roxio to create DVD.

Open VideoWave, and bring the video clip in. See if that works.

If it doesn't work, play one of thos videos in Windows Media Player. If it doesn't show as widescreen, the clips may in fact be 4:3.

Are they .avi files?

Bruce,

Thanks for your help. I found out the problem. My JVC camera saves mpeg files with the extension MOD. When I renamed these files to mpeg extension then I lost wide screen format. When I make dvd with original files with Cyberlink Power Producer, it maintains wide screen format but when I rename these files to open them in any other video editor or player then I lose wide screen format. So it is not Roxio problem.

I have to check with Cyberlink about this issue.

Once again thanks for your help.

You are welcome, but what a bummer. My 1998 model VHS-C video camera was a JVC, and I really liked it, but this January, when I decided to get a MiniDV video camera, I got the Sony DCR-HC96, and I capture as .AVI files, and VideoWave keeps the widescreen format.

Now, a question for you. Are the files on the DVD that you made with Cyberlink, .VOB files? If so, you should be able to bring them into VideoWave directly. Try a test, and see if they maintain the widescreen format.
